Interestingly, you can buy this type of car, export it to somewhere like the Isle of Man for I think 6 months, then you can bring it back and register it here as a personal import. Depending on how the election, EU referendum and the SNP goes you might not even have to send it to the Isle of Man ! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto 5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE |

That one at Wytham was built for the South African market I believe (more than likely to be used in the British Embassy or various employees there)

It would be interesting to see how the taxes and various duties stack up, however you would probably find that it is classed as a "grey import" so that none of the dealers would touch it for warranty purposes. I remember a few years back when people were importing new cars from Belgium and Holland (due to huge price differences) and found that they had warranty issues and some dealerships refused to work on them at all. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I've had a number of grey imports over the years (mostly japanese but also german), never had trouble getting parts or service. Never had one brand new though mostly 2 -3years old. My local Mazda place would even look stuff up on an import database so I got the right bits. They even commented that the imports were far better specced than the UK models at the time. Loads of scare mongering went on in the motoring press but as usual mostly . FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory |

A friend of mine bought a BMW new from Belgium at the end of the 90's and he had trouble getting warranty work done on it. At the time dealers were also trying to stop people buying cheaper abroad. This was before the EU Block Exemption which also stopped manufacturers insisting on servicing within their dealer network for warranty purposes. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I think you'll find that the reason that South African / Zimbabwe spec FL2 is for export only, would be because of the Euro-2 emissions specification. New cars in the EU/UK need Euro-5 now I think? or still Euro-4? 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers
