Paint peeling from roof of Freelander 2004.

My brother visited me this morning and showed me a problem he is having with the paint on his Freelander roof for some reason Large chunks of paint are flaking away leaving it down to what looks like the primed metal. He has had his Freelander since new so there isn't any old repair to the roof.

The Image below isn't of his Freelander but will show you what is happening.

It need not be the original paint even if youve had the car from new?
Quite a few cars get damaged on the car transporter from low hanging trees enroute to the dealers and its the top front car that gets all the bashing.
I used to live near to a Leyland dealership back in the 80's and new cars would regularly arrive with dents and smashed windscreens on the top of the transporter, those cars would need repair before they were ready for sale, and I doubt the customers knew about it either?
So you cant necessarily say its a fault in the factory paint, unless they can test somehow?

If his bothered about it then have it resprayed, I doubt LR would be interested in a 10+ year old car paintwork Wink Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

He wants to get the roof vinyl wrapped black but the roof will need to be prepped first guess who has to do it for him.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

My wife had a similar issue,

We had some small trees on the drive, so the cars ended up being S**T on most days, anyway I think it went about 3 weeks once without a wash, when it came to wash it off the paint came off directly underneath the Bird S**T as if is was neat paint stripper..

as it was only small (1"x1" i just used a black aerosol to cover before selling, just so it didnt rust.

that was a MY55 Fiat Punto, she now has a shiney TD4 GS and a freshly sprayed Defender 90...

..and I have a shot gun Thumbs Up

I've just googled it and it seems its quite common.. tell your borther to clean his car more often Very Happy MY2011 Freelander 2 GS Santorini Black

My 2004 FL paint is still like new... you know its not uncommon for a new car to be damaged on a transporter and the garage repairing/replacing the panel without the customer being any the wiser Wink MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior
