The rule for Easyjet and others is two crew members in the cockpit at all times, not pilots, one pilot, one crew member. That could be steward/stewardess, or any crew transiting to their next rota /off duty location, including standby crew on longhaul flights. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I remain to be convinced that this was deliberate action by the co-pilot. There is only circumstantial evidence that he deliberately locked the door and set the plane to descend. There are other scenarios, e.g. someone else slipped into the cockpit, incapacitated the co-pilot, and did the deed.

As with MH370 last year, people always seem to want to point the finger at the crew.

the voice recording will have picked up the noise of the co pilot been in incapacitated, i don't think that would have been possible to be done, when the recorder picked up the sound of a chair sliding back, then later the noise of the tapping to be allowed back in, the banging, the ground proximity sensor, the screams, then .... Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

One line of enquiry evidently in these situations (eg the Malaysian case) is that the pilot may have a grudge against one of the passengers (eg jilted girlfriend) and decides to take them and everyone else with him.

At least it was quick, flying into a mountain side at 500mph is about as fast as you can exit this world. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I'd have thought at least some passengers were well aware what was going on.
Terrifying few minutes, doesn't bear thinking about. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
