Looks like M$ have changed the settings on the free upgrade from option to recommended, so those that have there PC set to download and install recommened update, such as security, background service etc now find that they have Win10 installed

M$ are swearing blindly that its nothing to do with them according to media i read this morning Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Luckily I got a warning message on mine saying it will be upgraded automatically on Monday! I just selected cancel and turned it off. It did say you can revert back to Windows 8 within 31 days for Free. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

its just when i bought the new comp, with 8.1 on it, the IT people who i needed to speak to for various reinstalls of my businesses programs were, try stay away from 10 as its too new and released too early and we are having issues..... some programs drivers aint comatable..... and so on

I now have another two computers saying that the need switching off to install updates, both have been having the free update to W10 messgaes and i don't know if i should, one acts for a server for a database the other is the call recording software, both vital Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Couldn't have an X-Ray at the dentist this morning, because the controller PC was upgrading to Win 10. The dentist was fuming that one of his staff must have clicked the wrong button, but seems from this that it was automatic.

Got to 40% complete and we had both got bored twiddling our thumbs so we rescheduled. He's terrified that his proprietary software will not work with Win 10. I wished him luck and left...

I work in the Dental Industry, I particularly specialize in X-Ray products, the biggest issue we have is customers having kit that 'upgrades' itself, all windows PC's can be disabled from automatic updates. It is highly unlikely that the software he has will not work, as very few manufactures have updated their systems.
We always ensure our clients have a few self developing x-ray films on site, just in case Thumbs Up

Windows 10 is, indeed, a great improvement over 8, however, for what I want it for I've yet to find anything which it does significantly better than 7!

The only problem I've had is with the video drivers on my main development machine, but with 2 video cards and 3 monitors it's not a typical user configuration. No compatibility issues so far.

+1. I was using 7 and did not upgrade to 8 as it did not seem very well thought out to me, now running 10 Pro and very pleased, just had to update driver on one of the printers, the plotter worked fine.

12 months ago I spent £5k on a laptop with windows 7 pro - and it didn't even come with office!, it did have RS232 and RS485 ports though.

Had to finally upgrade from XP, just because my software wouldn't upgrade if the processor was less than 2Ghz Evil or Very Mad
The first thing I did was turn off upgrades.

My problem is some of the software I use every day won't even run on Win7, let alone newer OS, even in a virtual XP environment it will not work Crying or Very sad

What's the chance of win 10 supporting a proper XP environment, let alone DOS?

What can I say, one of my customers still runs his plant on three win98 machines, he has enough spares for the next 10 years at least, so someone has to support them, for a small fee obviously. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

You can use alright on Win10 a virtual machine (VirtualBox, VMWare, etc) and install there any environment you need for your old programs.

My PC keeps wanting to upgrade to 10 every time I boot up.
Now I'm not sure if this is true but a friend told me that 10 doesn't have media player installed and would have to pay for it.
Can anybody confirm this? Martyn
