Heated Front Windscreen Dilemna

My wife's 2007 Freely has an issue with the Front Windscreen heating elements. The Drivers zone seems OK (although patchy) but the passenger side is non-functional. Replaced the fuse (F34) but it blew immediately indicating a short between the two connections. I disconnected the plug under the facia which is attached to two flexy tabs from the screen and measured nearly zero ohms resistance which would normally be very very low anyway (so not conclusive) but there was continuity between the flexy tabs and car chassis earth. I would have thought that the whole element assembly between the glass laminates would be totally isolated from chassis earth, is my assumption correct. I thought it might be picking up an earth path through the drivers side elements but again, my understanding is that they are both totally isolated from one another. Has anyone any comments or suggestions

I would imagine that if there is a fault with the element it can't be fixed ? and a replacement windscreen would be needed.

no doubt some one in the know will come along shortly to confirm.

Sounds right to me - confirmed by the attached wiring diagram.

The Topix windscreen fitting instructions say "CAUTION: Make sure the heated front screen foil electrical connectors are tucked underneath the body plenum panel. This will avoid contact with the windscreen wiper arm linkage."

Hope this helps - Good luck!

I know someone who had a similar problem. Cured it with a house brick. Whistle
