Can anyone show me where Land Rover have said this is a replacement for the Freelander?

A) you can't because it isn't.

It is the first car of the new Discovery Family.

I haven't read anything from L/R regards this but most reviewers have stated as such.

Exactly ... its about time they read the media packs they were given and stop creating nonsense for their own agenda.

The Freelander has not been replaced, it is still in production, OK not here granted, but still produced none the less.

freelander underneath though Whistle

Jokes, I know it isn't supposed to be directly a replacement it just can't help but appear that way as they discontinue one and bring out the next using the old ones bits.

I'm not here to knock the DS but the picture below is a good reason why I went ahead and purchased one of the last Freelander 2's to be built for Australia.
The Australian built Ford Territory which not only in appearance but set up, optional 7 seater, very similar in all ways.

My relative went from a Ford Territory that fell apart & cost a fortune to run to an Evoque a few years ago. The Evoque is a very nice car.

In the meantime very happy with my Freelander 2 and will keep an open mind about the DS and hopefully in the future will either win me over with a facelift or a new model in the LR range.
In the meantime I'm happy knowing that I'm driving one of the last FL2's.

I panicked after returning from four months in Europe when I found out the Freelander was on it's last legs. I had looked at it two years earlier but didn't need a new car yet. I did as much research as possible with the limited information available & bought one of the last petrol Freelanders available. I was happy to wait for a DS but came to the conclusion that things were at the end of an era. The Evoque was a bit small & a D4 was too large for me & the small garage. The other half was keen on a Defender but I didn't want to be fighting over street parking. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

In our local Northern Beaches paper a preview of the DS, LR marketing Australia said the Freelander is dead & buried, & the DS is a new car. I don't think LR Australia could have made it any clearer. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

It was a limited edition, they are still producing two models, SE and HSE.
The new new Discovery Sport will be available in the Indian market from around August and I imagine that is when production may cease to give way to building the DS in Pune.

I spent some time around the DS yesterday, it's very good and I get the feeling that many of the negative comments are not as justified as people make them out to be. Until the car is in daily use by members, we can only guess as to how it really measures up. Would I have one .. Yes.
