FL2 ownership is definitely a blend of pleasure and potential financial pain! I hope yours ends up being a cheap fix. |

Booked in to my nearest Land Rover dealer next Tuesday morning for a quick look, and assessing the fault code - the pain may begin then!! |

The problem is that I have no idea where that solenoid is! Hopefully the dealer will enlighten me. |

Good news - I have been to the dealer and it seems my gearbox is OK!! However, although less expensive, there is still some work to do - the PO748 is the Haldex pump in the rear diff/Haldex unit which needs to be replaced, and the noise is coming from the IRD unit: this too needs to be replaced. So a bill of £500 for parts.

I assume that you mean the transfer box rather than IRD (freelander 1?) in which case £500 sounds very cheap. I had one done under warranty and it cost over £1700. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The low level diff repair is around £500. It could be this they are quoting? |

These videos look useful, pity I don't speak Italian or Russian though.

I would recommend anyone with an Auto get their gearbox oil changed every 45K. there are some companies now that have special facilities for changing gearbox oil and flushing without having to remove the gearbox on an FR2.

I changed the fluid in the gearbox as soon as I bought the vehicle. I also changed the PAS reservoir as the pump was howling due to a blocked filter in the reservoir. The dealer told me today that the transfer box required replacing - he said that they would charge about £1500 for the part and suggested I look on eBay: this I did and found brand new genuine boxes for between £300 and £500. So I've ordered one!! The only worry is that the two photographs of the units look different and the sellers both say that they fit FL2s 2006 to 2012!! I have since found that the oil in the Haldex unit is separate to the rear diff - between the two they take about 1.3 litres |

So, the transfer box was changed today. I had a brand new unit on eBay for £299 plus delivery. Book time is 4 hours, my son did the job in less than two!!Works perfectly - the old unit's spline drive was worn like a pensioner's teeth!! The Haldex pump was more problematic - the part was £199.00 on eBay (came from Lithuania of all places!!) but was a genuine item. Unfortunately, getting the old one out resulted in a crack in the Haldex housing. I tried to repair it with Milliput, but I think I will have to get a new unit (which, of course, comes with a new pump!!!) To be continued....... |

Interesting, did they explain the fault code? Have found a Haldex unit yet, will be interesting to see how much you can get them for? Looking at the video of one working, they look expensive!
