Haven't noticed any noise on mine, but only had the car up to 105-110kph (68mph) twice for 20 minutes each way. Didn't have the radio on and the windows were closed with AC on as it was 33˚C (91˚F) outside. The front crossbar is mounted in line with the back of the front door.

I read somewhere to mount the front one back a bit to reduce noise. Haven't tried other positions. If for some reason I need the front one further forward I will move it, if and when required.

Installed the rails myself with helpful notes from the forum! It is not difficult as long as you are patient and take your time and buy the right tools if you don't have them. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I had roof rails and bars on my last Freelander and I took the cross bars off as they were noisy.

I won't bother with them again unless to fit a roof box or something else.

The cross bars make noise if they are the wrong way round, if the fat side faces forward as per instructions they are quiet.

The Freelander SD4 SE loaner I collected tonight has roof rails. Noticed them as soon as I got up to a decent speed. No whistle, just a wind noise. Sad Do not get that from my Whispbars. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Came on my first car and soon took them off due to noise, and would never have needed them anyway.

Second 2013 car came without and much better

yup, the bar does create a droning noise at speed, worse in some windy conditions when there is a bit of a crosswind. Mildly irritating but not impossible to live with - just

Constantly run with roof rails, cross bars & bar pads on a permanent basis.
If there is any noise [which I don't know if there is Confused ] it certainly doesn't bother me.

I just ordered 2 x http://www.agmpartscomponents.co.uk/durite...light-bar/

Plan to make a light bar to fit to the roof rails, failing that mount them up front.
