Fuel Filter Priming ?

Hi.
I've read that it may be possible to bleed/prime a new fuel filter by filling it with a syringe rather than going to the expense of buying the recommended inline fuel hand pump. and then just turning engine over and over until any air locks are cleared.
Has anyone done it this way or know if its feasible. thanks

Welcome to the forum,some years ago did exactly that with my brother-in-laws freelander so yes worked for me! Smile

I just connected a 12" length of fuel hose to one of the inlets, inserted a very small funnel into it and kept pouring fuel into it until it came out of all other outlets. Worked fine. Others have suggested immersing the filter in a bucket of fuel until air bubbles stop coming out of the filter.

I’ve changed the filter a few times and always filled the filter with fuel via a syringe every time. Never had a problem starting the engine or running thereafter. Try using the syringe to fill the hoses just before re connecting. Some fuel obviously drains out when disconnecting.
My daughter did some science experiments at school many years ago and used a couple of large syringes and tubes to demonstrate hydraulic principals. She brought the kit home afterwards and they quickly ended up in my toolbox. Very handy items to have for the home mechanic. Gone:

Bucket of fuel worked fine for me.

I hope this helps but fredastaire's way of filling up the filter from the bottom work well and then use the primer to push fuel into the HP lines.

Also, once priming the fuel comes through nicely so you not need to fill up the filter from the bottom as this worked for me.

Do the Draper connections fit ok? I measured the connections and emailed draper for the dimension on their primer and the weren't a match.
