Links to winter tyres.

The winter comes this year as well, and talking about winter tires are more common.
I have collected some links relating to various manufacturers.

Choosing the right winter tyres in Scandinavia is pretty important and time consuming thing as we drive nearly 6 months of the year on them. All/most vehicles here have two sets of wheels/tyres, one for each season. Anyone who tries using one set of intermediate (all-year-round) tyres for both summer and winter will lose out in both seasons in regards safely and traction and ultimately will not save financially either.
Many thanks bjartin for the links Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I'll just say I am happy with my Conti 4x4 IceContact (which also won a comparison-test for SYV-tyres here in Norway), -if anybody need an opinion.

Same test also warned against so called "all-year-round"-tyres that is much used in Europe.
Conclusion was that they were hazardous on ice (read: useless), and in general not good. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

As mentioned on another thread http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic2810.html?highlight=
The Michelin Latitude X-Ice M+S tyres on my FL2 are excellent in ice and snow conditions and can therfore be throughly recommended as a winter tyre. The fact that they have been devloped especially for 4x4's should also be regarded when making a choice.
I have not read the test Viking refers to, so a link to it would be nice Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Think this may be results from the winter tyre test report that Viking referred to?
The (NAF – Norwegian motoring association) report does not define how the test was carried out, but the results for each category are presented in a table form in Norwegian.
The three that came top for normal cars are newly developed types for 2008.

Normal cars:
Continental ContiVikingContact 5 - 7,8 points
Michelin X-Ice Xi2 - 7,7 points
Nokian Hakkapeliitta R - 7,7 points
Bridgestone Blizzak Nordic WN-01 - 7,6 points
Gislaved Soft Frost 3 - 7,6 poeng
Continental ContiWinterContact TS 810 - 7,4 points
Vredestein Nord-Trac - 7,3 poeng
Yokohama Ice Guard ig20 - 7,3 points
Pirelli Icestorm 3 - 6,9 points
Federal Himalaya WS1 - 6,6 points

4x4 cars:
Continental CrossContact Viking (7,3 points)
Nokian Hakkapeliitta R Sport Utility (6,9 points)
Bridgestone Blizzak DM-Z3 (6,4 points)

The winner for 4x4’s (SUV’s) class does not seem to be the type Viking has referred to in this thread.
The Michelin X-Ice Latitude I have referred to earlier is not included in the test, which is strange as it is developed especially for 4x4’s. Maybe it would have beaten the Censored out of the competition, so they had to leave it out Whistle 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

This is the test I am referring to. Sorry guys, it's in Norwegian......

But I agree with you. There are very few tyres compared. Michelin and others should be included.
One result for tyres without studs (which you refer to), and one with studs.

Andy, are you referring to Michelin Latitude X-Ice North (8,3 poeng). If so, it was ranked as number 5 in this test. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

Here's something about how the test was performed:

There's Google for you..... Thanks Bjartin.

Piggfrie = Stud-free, or unstudded if you will.
Deck = corny translation of tyre

Engelsk: deck, tire, tyre

As Bjartin says, use your imagination on the rest. Cool 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

Oh, I thought it perhaps was the same ting as with my tyre, -the same name for both studded and unstudded tyres. (Conti is very good with making confusing names on their tyres) 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.

Thought I would post up Transport Canada's official Winter Tires selection. These tires meet or exceed the severe winter driving conditions rating:

Very interesting. You Canadian guys also knows what snow & ice is. I recommend all of you to watch the video in the first thread demonstrating the uselessnes of All-Season-Tyres.
If I remember correctly, the Bridgestone Blizzak DM-Z3 was rated as the best SUV-tyres here in Norway last year. I see it has a top rating here too.

It seem to me that the difference between SUV-tyres and tyres for regular cars has not been taken too seriously by motor-journalists. The Norwegian thread I posted earlier, has too few tyres in their comparison.
Not everyone seem to be aware that there are very many SUV's out there (at least in Norway), and that they demand their own tyres. -And that SUV's over and under two tonnes demand different set of winter-tyres.

Well well..... Sad 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.
