EGR blanking plates will fit MY2010 and earlier cars as a straight fit needing no software changes. It is entirely successful.
I've had mine in for one year, passed MOT with low emissions.
.
For MY 2011 cars to present fitting an EGR blank has to be considelred impossible as it throws fault codes. You would need a very clever person to extract the engine software to a PC to alter the software before remapping.
.
MY 2010 is pre facelift. MY 2011 is the facelift with the later front bumper and full width tailgate chrome handle. In 2010 the changeover happened mid year so you may have a 2010 registered car which is 2011MY.
.
Kind regards from Fred

Spoke to my indie today about blanking and he said it could be done with a remap, no need to physically insert a blanking plate or remove swirl flaps. Just wondered if anyone knew whether this is correct or has done this?
Cheers, Rich.

Hi Rich, you show as having a 2007 Freelie. The EGR blank for your car is so inexpensive and can be fitted by any competent home mechanic. Any software remap would need a specialist and would be expensive.
.
The 2007 - 2010 cars are the easy ones to sort.
It's the facelift 2011 onwards cars that would benefit from a specialist who could switch the EGR out , however he still doesn't appear to be on the horizon........
.
The Swirl flaps are only fitted to 2007 - 2010 cars, any remapping is not a relevant matter. It's the crud from the EGR that builds up on the flaps and their flap closing that breaks them off.
.
Hope this helps. Kind regards from Fred.

Fredastaire is right - less than a fiver for the plate, 10 minutes to fit, job done. Why bother with a re-map? (N.B. half an hour to fit if you remove the intake air ducting - those clips are a pain unless you happen to have the correct tools!)

Thanks Fred, yes I was aware of that.
It sounded like an easier route to remap, than to start taking things apart, although as it sounds even I should be able to manage it. The way I understand it is that the remap would render the EGR inoperable and therefore the flaps would remain closed. I was offered the remap for £200, which apparently has the benefit of additional power and a slight decrease in fuel consumption. I don't have time to be tinkering at the moment but I would like to get either of the options done soon to hopefully save a potential problem.
Still not sure which way to go?

Hi, perhaps other members might advise on the remap extra power bearing in mind you have the manual box.
The factory only offered the high output with automatics. In 2011 they actually down rated the output from 158 down to 150.
The Auto SD is 190.
There are plenty of notes on here about clutch/ flywheel replacements being needed.
.
I guess I'm old school and like things simple and risk free.
.
Good luck with your decision .
.
Kind regards from Fred.

my concerns about blanking the EGR with a plate just before the throttle body is due to non-stopped exhaust gas that will runs across the cooler-egr valve system.
Doing this way not solve the problem of the valve clogging...isn't correct?

I'm thinking to blank the EGR before the valve/cooler, so putting the plate between the exhaust manifold and the cooler pipe.
Doing this way the exhaust gas doesn't come to the valve so all the EGR system can remain clean.

anyone tried doing this way?

maybe there's no enough space to operate?
