Trimming down plates

I normally hand a set of plates into the sign makers and they charge me a fiver to have them trimmed down. Question is has anyone trimmed down their own plates with the curved edges and not just straight cuts? Im guessing a jigsaw may tear the back of the plate and let in moisture in over time? MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

I used a jigsaw to do my front plate, as long as you have to clamped down tight and use a perspex cutting blade it will be fine.
