Cheap first service

Hi

Just thought I'd let you know, I was looking into getting my car serviced, and was going to really struggle to afford the £350 that Marshalls had quoted me. Getting married is very expensive.

I was looking at the Nene Overland website (a large LR specialist in Peterborough) and it said that they can service new LRs in acordance with LRs guidlines, and not affect your warranty. I gave them a call, and it's true, a manufacturer can no longer insist that you car is serviced at a main dealer, just that it is done to their guidlines, and with the correct parts. They quoted be £175 inc. VAT, I very nealy bit both their hands off, I couldn't book it in quick enough.

Had the service done, and it only cost £171, and I got chance to look at some of the LRs they have for sale, and their own FL2 Commercial conversion.

To be honest, I'd rather entrust my baby to an LR specialist, full of enthusiats (you should see their own LRs) than to a main dealer, just my thoughts

Rich

The day went really well, good weather, everything went as planned. We both had a fantastic day, and throughly enjoyed it. we had a small family do, 35 in total, and in the evening we took over the hotel lounge rather than having a big disco, and we had a fantastic time.

Honeymoon in LA, vegas and San francisco, we both had a fantastic time, great weather, really good places, and even the 600 mile/11 hour drive from Vegas to San Fran was enjoyable.

Unfortunately they only had Jeeps to rent not LRs, although a 3.7l petrol engine helped me get over it.

Can't believe that in 2 weeks, we saw only 1 LR2, in the middle of LA, loads of RRs, RRSs, and Discos. Even a Trek Discovery all kitted up and muddy, at a shopping centre.

not yet, as they had a problem with their computer, I need to pop back next week, so they can reset the service indicator,ánd check versions.

I recently had the first service done at Marshalls (never even thought of Nene Overland). The interesting thing is how the cost is broken down.

Basic service cost is £195.90 + oil (£47.94), element, filter, gasket and VAT.
There also carried out a Forte flush treatment on the engine and installed a fuel cleansing treatment in fuel tank (anyone know what this is?).
Also carried out Forte air conditioning treatment.
The treatments are £25.00 + VAT each.
One litre of oil left in car to top up £7.99 + VAT.
Therefore it seems that these extras are what seems to push the price up.
However did get free use of courtesy car and 10% off as part of there loyalty card scheme.

Secod question from the new boy...

We have ordered an XS for delivery in early september. A couple of options we have been offered are tyre insurance (£250 for three years) and pre-paid servicing package at £30 per month. Does anyone have any experiance of these deals?

How much is a main dealer service - three years worth?
How much would you expect to pay for a new tyre?

Cheers

Tim

no

Both deals sound like salesman's feeble attempt to improve their sales margin. Pre-paid service package sounds like an interest free loan to the dealer! Tyre insurance, from what? Laughing Life is not a dress rehearsal!

The tyre insurance covers any damage to your tyre but not wear. It was suggested though that if your nearly three year old worn tyre got damaged...... Seems like it could be a good idea - but that does depend on how much tyres are.

Surely it depends just as much on how often tyres get damaged ........ no often me thinks, unless you can't steer!!! Rolling with laughter Life is not a dress rehearsal!
