United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Indus Silver
Prices going up ?

I purchased an XS in Sept for 21495
traded it in for my HSE after 9 weeks
and now the dealer some 12weeks later has it back on forecourt for £22495
Mileage inaccurate advertised at 37k not the 40k on the clock and it has become an Auto Wink
the Tax gone up to £225 from £180 Smile

things are looking up on the Prices front
this is tongue in cheek BTW

a dealer friend of mine once told me that most car dealers whack at least £1k onto the price of a trade in to cover their costs, plus a bit extra if they expect a haggle when it comes to selling it

You can only really judge price trends on sale prices - after all it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it Very Happy

This one has 3k on the trade I was able to get which was better than the initial £18500 I was offered.
Finally agreed £19500 plus money off towbar etc.
I have no concerns I am far happier with my HSE the xs was a good car just I did not bond with the manual
And wanted all the HSE extras after seeing MAVs car and the other on here.
Plus I traded in a 40k miler for a 6k one.

Ed's right, the prices of LR's do increase over the winter. But after speaking to several people I know in the trade, the launch of the Disco Sport hasnt effected FL2 prices as expected.

There are several reasons for this :

1) The a Freelander 2 will forever in ever be in effect a a 'current' model, mainly because the new car is not a Freelander 3 and is a significant change in layout from the Freelander.

Also, do you recall when the Evoque was launched, many though it would kill Freelander prices, but it had the opposite effect.

Customers new to the brand went to the the dealers looking at the Evoque, realised it may be too small but then saw and bought a Freelander.

The same will happen with the Disco Sport to a degree, people reading about a new 'small Disco, will go to the dealers and have a look, again it could be many new to he brand, see the DS as being a little expensive and buy a late used Freelander. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. I sold an 08 reg Freelander to a dealer for £7400 last march and it is still on the forecourt priced at £7950. Given that it needs a new MOT and a service plus loss of interest on capital employed, valeting, VAT, further depreciation etc I can't see how some dealers survive.

I can, they charge £500 for a £200 service at my indie!

Fair point Wiggy but in this case it wasn't a main dealer that ended up with my car but a used car lot with no garage facilities. I can't see how you can make a living when you have £7.4k tied up for 9 months in a car that at best will deliver a margin on £450 out of which comes a warranty, vat, service, mot and valeting.

The problem that main dealers have is that they have to keep one of each model in the showroom (how much does that cost?) and that JLR will demand high standards of presentation to keep the franchise. As for service, if you want the courtesy cars, leather sofas, fresh coffee and morning papers someone has to pay for it. By comparison my local indie is in the middle of nowhere, has a warm waiting room with an old sofa and a pile of car magazines and a coin in the slot coffee machine, last time I asked for a courtesy car I got an R reg Toyota Rav 4 with dodgy seatbelts. However they are very competent and about 40% cheaper than a main dealer.
