Battery Load on Startup MY2014

Since having my new car, and I installed the Blackvue on a power magic (set to turn off at 11.8v) and the additional cheaper camera which is ignition controlled.

I have been noticing the camera is either off or on in the morning upon unlocking, but turns off upon cranking

I bought a voltage monitor that plugs into the aux power sockets and displays a readout

this is around 11.7v and goes to 14.6v when started and the blackvue switches back on, BUT occasionally on a cold morning i have to defrost the screen

this obviously increases the voltage load, but it slowly drops from 14.5/7v too 11.6v, this morning was front rear screen, steering wheel and the headlights were on also, parked on my drive and the blackvue turns off again

is 11.6v normal with engine running? or is it a sign of a issue Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Does the voltage increase when you increase engine revs?

The alternator should regulate the voltage to over 14v even with head lights, heated screen etc are in use, there shouldn't be a notable drop below 14v.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to a plug in device, The only reliable voltage readings are from the battery terminals.

Power to the aux socket is cut during cranking, as is a good many other items, I think this is to make sure full power is available during cranking. My after market head unit reboots if it's on and I start the car; this is connected to a permanent live.

Cranking takes a lot more current than any other vehicle electrical load. How much depends on many factors such as temperature and battery condition but to name a few.
Suffice it to say that cranking takes several hundred amps so expect drop.
Which is why very short journeys aren't good for the battery.
The voltage should recover shortly afterwards while the alternator does it's best to restore the battery charge. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.
