Hello, could someone tell me if changing 2 x 7 pin sockets to a 13 pin on a 2011 FL2 is just a matter of removing the 7 pin sockets and having 2 cables into the new 13 pin with no wiring changes needed ?

Or even just plugging in a 2x7pin to 13 pin adaptor! Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

you can either buy the 13pin cable, or cut off and rewired them to a 13

though, i believe there does need to be a perm live in a 13 pin, so i would suggest a qualified person does it, unless you are one of those Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Replacing 7N/7S sockets with 13 pin is, in theory, inexpensive and easy but personally I'd let my local tow bar fitter do the job for a few quid. I wouldn't bother having the twin cable changed to 13 core though unless it was in poor condition. You may already have a permanent live for ATC system

They have the kit and the test board, warranty on the work etc.

When I changed from 2x7 pins to a 13 pin on my 2011 SD4 at main dealers, I had to have an alternative control box thing as well. I was told on some models it is not just a simple swop of sockets.

11MY LR tow electrics seem problematic. I had official LR 13pin kit fitted, but it had to be "turned on", as local dealer could not do it for 3 days, I went to the specialist who looked after my Disco2 for 9 years, their kit only partly turned it on.
I then had to go to the dealer I bought kit from (30 miles away) who successfully activated it.
So - do not assume switching plugs is straightforward! FL2 11 S Black 😂

My MY10 was fitted with twin sockets and LR detachable tow bar when I bought it at 4 yrs old. I replaced the twin sockets with a 13 pin socket and cable, jointing with the original LR loom twin cables inside the l/h boot area. No problem, just take time ensuring you identify & connect each wire in turn. No additional programming needed - everything works as it should.

There are specific 13 pin sockets that take twin 7 core cables, using the connection drwings of 7 pin 12S and 12N and the 13 pin socket it is a fairly easy change, if you are anxious then do it one wire at a time, or lable each wire with its function my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I jointed mine in the boot area as the original LR loomed twin socket wiring connections were "potted" and impossible to dismantle without destruction. Surprisingly though there are plenty of twin entry plugs, there ore no twin entry sockets, perhaps using the twin entry grommet from a plug and a standard bulkhead 13pin socket will produce a water tight entry on a 13 pin mounting plate without copious quantities of silicone sealant my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
