The clutch on my TD4 starts to engage as soon as you release the pedal, about an 1" off the carpet. It means that when you are waiting to pull away or stop starting in a queue, you have to hold the pedal hard down on the carpet, release an 1" and you start to creep forward. mines a lot further up. I don't know how but I'd imagine the dealer could adjust it. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

Not really measured mine (quite difficult to get a tape measure near the pedals when driving) but I'm guessing about 2 - 3 inches off the floor when the clutch engages, but there again it is a smooth clutch so haven't really taken much notice.

Not sure if it can be adjusted......is it a cable or hydraulic clutch

How many miles on the car

EDIT:
Just read the owners manual, can't see any mention of clutch fluid so I'm guessing it's cable operated so might just need adjusting that's all. ______________________

The car was in today for a couple of recalls and a squeakey stiff gear change.I asked them to check the clutch, they said the hydraulic fluid was ok and clutch was within tolerance but to monitor it.

It is a hydraulic clutch but mechanical adjutsment is possible. First you need to be sure that there is no air in the hydraulics (by bleeding it) once that is known to be OK then mechanical links can be set up.

I experienced a failure of the hydraulic pipe work on the clutch system, when my car was just two weeks old, hydraulics fluid was leaking/being sprayed onto the exhaust which gave rise to soem interesting burning smells. As a result had a number of discussions about the clutch etc. . Although the car was off the road for two weeks while new parts were sourced, since then the clutch has been fine, the biting point is certainly higher than just 1 inch off the floor, that doesn't sound right at all.

I'd get a seconf opinion, don't be fobbed off. Should be very simple to do a comparison of the biting point on your car compared with say any other manual FL2 in the dealership, so should be quite easy to make your point.

Where do you top-up the clutch fluid then

I don't think you are supposed to top the hydraulic of the clutch as I wouldsay this is pressuried unit. Same as you are not to top up the hydaulic liquide for the Haldex (I think).
Anyway in the old days - when there was no self adjustment of the cluch a cluch that engaged so low was, I hope remember correctly, indicating a worn clutch and was than tightened manually.

No clutch slipping but difficult engaging gears.

Took car to my local garage for a second opinion.A technician said the clutch was not right as soon as he depressed the pedal and comfirmed this opinion after he engaged gear and tried to pull away.He has booked the car in for next tue/wed and expects to drop the gearbox to inspect the clutch etc. Courtesy car is provided.
They will also fit new gear linkage cables to cure stiff squeeky gear change. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4.Zermatt Silver,Privacy glass,Bi-Xenon headlights........Gone!

Clutch update!

Clutch has got worse over the last day or two now its very difficult to engage gears. Although its booked in next week to have it sorted i was concerned damage would be caused by having to force it into gear. So called into garage this efternoon who took it straight into the workshop and after an hour told me it could not be rectified on the spot and should not be driven. They contacted L.R. Assist who got me a X Type Jag untill the repairs are complete.

Clutch update.

The clutch slave cylinder is faulty (I think this is within the clutch housing) and needs replacing.Problem is there are none available at LR UK so they are going to try and sourse one from Europe, however it could take up to 3 weeks to obtain one!
I do find it hard to believe parts like this are not available from stock.
