Presumably it's all the plastic burning, it always amazes me that whenever I try to start a fire deliberately (ie a bonfire or in the log burner and not a car!) how difficult it is to get things going - and have you ever tried to set alight some diesel? (ex Chemist speaking) |

A bad thing to happen, but let's not loose grip on reality. A number of things could have started this. Doesn't mean there is a fault with the a Freelander 2. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come......... |

Weird thing is mine was in the dealers on a previous occasion Having a burning smell investigated, and I now seem to be suffering electrical issues on my car. This just rubbed salt into the wound. |

Perhaps your post should read Doesn't mean there is a fault with the Freelander 2, but certainly possible with that one my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis 2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever. |

Why? is it a slow news day, cars go up in flames in their dozens every day, or are you chasing sensationalism and compensation? Newspapers 'buy' stories that will sell tens of thousands of copy, a Freelander going up in smoke on a dirt track is hardly going to raise eyebrows, might get a few comments in the local boozer, that's aboit it. |

Seriously Iain, you will be surprised at how many cars simply combust, we had a camera club meet at the local fire station, it was info from them. Yes, many are arson attempts but cars on supermarket car parks and at home regularly go up.

Decades ago I had just parked my car and saw a bit of smoke from the bonnet. It was caused by friction from a couple of wires which then shorted. Caught it all in time. The only real pain was a bit of smell from the smoke for a few weeks.
