Try checking your earth strap on bell housing, this has caused similar problems when loose. |

Worth trying putting into gear and rocking it. If you hear a clunk and it then starts you will know that the starter motor IS the problem, could save a bob or two. Good luck, hope you get it sorted quickly. |

As usual, not using a sledge hammer to crack a walnut, check and recheck the simplest of things first. Perhaps redo all the earthing points before going onto bigger things. I once had an Alfa Romeo with a security light on indicating that the engine had been disabled and this was merely after changing a battery. Turned out to be a bad earth not supplying the security module. |

Good advice, a tight earth connection is not necessarily a good one, only as good as the corrosion on the mating surfaces.

My guess would be a starter motor full of mud from taking the car some way past its maximum wading depth... |

Without hearing the click, I'm wondering if its the steering column lock?? Mines done it a few times in the past were on pressing the start button I heard a click and nothing happened, tried wriggling the steering wheel then it started on the next attempt.
