Not wishing to teach anybody to suck eggs but just to clarify the individual bits and pieces:

The Mongoose Pro is just an interface cable, it's what allows the vehicle and a computer to talk to each other. On its own it does nothing.

In order for you to actually do anything useful with it you need some diagnostic software. If you buy from the original link you'll get the cable and 3 DVDs which contain JLR's Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD).

SDD runs on 32-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows 7. If you're running a different OS or you're running a 64-bit version then it's necessary to run a hypervisor such as VirtualBox, VMWare or Hyper-V so that you can create a 32-bit virtual machine.

The reason I'm suggesting turning off Hyper-V and using VirtualBox instead is that I know it works, that's how I got mine working and I couldn't get it to work under Windows Virtual PC which is the Win 7 version of Hyper-V.

Turn Hyper-V off.

If it's a branded disk I'd be inclined to get one from at least the same manufacturer, if not the same model, that you have.

Personally I'd go here and download the genuine thing. You'll then need a product key and there's a million and one ways to get one of those. If you've got an old scrap PC that used to have XP on it then it will probably have a Microsoft sticker with the key printed on it.

When you get to https://www.modern.ie/en-us/virtualization-tools#downloads select 'IE8 on XP' and 'VirtualBox on Windows'

Where did VMWare come in? I thought you'd installed VirtualBox.

Assuming you do mean VirtualBox you download the VM from the www.modern.ie page and then import it to VirtualBox by following the instructions at the www.makeuseof.com link.
