2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver
This is robbery.....

My TD4 has done 73k on an 07 plate.
It's now due 84 months or 105k miles service and MOT...

I've rung round Stealers and been quoted £384, £448 and £502 all have the MOT as an extra £55.

The car is due an A service... which is basically oil, filter and pollen filter and a few checks (LR words not mine) there's no extras.

My indie is £210 all in, with wheels off checks, engine flush, and something to clean the injectors...

The indie doesn't do tea or coffee !!

Walk to a Costa, then you've got a bargain.

It's always an easy job for a garage when you have a MOT with a minor service (which is why some garages do a deal when having both at the same time) because apart from changing the oil & filter plus a top up of fluids, most of the items in the service - brakes, tyres, suspension, lights, seat belts, wipers, washers, drive shafts, exhaust etc. PLUS the emission, headlamp aim and brake efficiency tests are carried out during the MOT. If I didn't have the ability or facilities to do both on my car, I'd just have an oil and filter change plus a fluid check and top up with the MOT OR have them done 6 months apart to get best value. When the big boys can make a killing they will.
My mate has a 101 and wanted to replace prop shaft bearings on transfer box and diffs. Diff bearings were £34 from BritPart - an almost identical bearing needed for the transfer box end but only available from Landrover was £295 !!! Jules

Most bearings can be bought from engineering companies or bearing supply if you have the part no stamped on bearing shell. Different (bearing)manufacturers mainly use same ref nos.
Prices will shock you, In a good way. All FL2's (3) Gone

If you don't want to pay the runnings costs, buy a cheaper car.

I hate the fact some call dealers 'stealers'. Build a relationship with them and you'll find their pricing to be good.

Personally I would question an indie that was quoting too cheap prices! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Stealers:

The franchised dealership that quotes their customers in excess of £5,500 to replace the gearbox in their RR Sport, as it is loosing drive.
The car needed an £8 bush, and 20 minutes to repair

Another dealership reported a new turbo was required on a Disco 3, due to excessive smoking and lack of power. Cost? £1800 + VAT
The actual repair was a new turbo hose, available from said dealer for £35

Even the salesmen are at it. Cruise control cannot be retro-fitted. That's a £400 option and needs to be specced when the car is built
A new switch is £45, and takes 60 seconds to enable in the cars CCF

Parts men can't rip people off? In tank fuel pump for a Disco 3 is £600 from LR. The same pump from Citroen is £60...

Just sayin Whistle

The main dealer has an expensive overheads such a well equipped garage, service personnel, nice shiny showroom and salespersons.
It all has to be paid for.
Having said that, a good Indie is much better value especially if your car is out of warranty.
It's our choice where we take our car. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

It's probably better to have a MOT then just a oil and filter change and fluids checked in the same week and then if anything crops up from the MOT then it can be sorted with the oil change. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Hi all,
new to forum but not new to LR ownership

I took my Freebie2 to Land Rover in Nottingham after a little 'negotiation' between myself, Nottingham LR, Derby LR and Chesterfield LR.

Ive got 53k on the clock of my 2008 MY GS, and booked it in for a 6 year/90k B service.

After said negotations I got it all in for £400 on the nail, with Jaguar courtesy car for free and it came back with a chilled bottle of water in the cup holder and spotlessly valeted.

Not sure how this price fairs with indy garages but Im pretty sure its not much more and (in theory) gives a little peace of mind as it was the first time I'd had it serviced
