United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

Read somewhere that by placing the keyfob/stsrt button this way it helped the FL2 to do so well at the NCAP rating. (by removing the normal starter from the steering wheel complex.

I can't see why. I think the push button start is simply there for fashion - all part of the retro fashion thats going around at the moment and for someone who doesn't drive the fl2 all the time, a real pain in the Censored . In fact the only truly daft thing in the LR2 IMHO. It's fine for people like Honda to put silly fashion things in (after all they change their models like my 15 year old changes shoes), but LR should be above all that.
I'm all for the electronic keys but I think they should have had a look at the merc system before they came up with that. Merc get a fair bit wrong but their key system is a perfect example of clear, practical German thinking. For those that haven't seen them, the key is a plastic key size and shaped box with all the same buttons you find on an LR remote, but as with eth LR, there's no metal bit. You just plug in the plastic end and turn like a normal key. Starting is still 'automatic' but instead of bashing the button, you flick the key as you would in the old days. The security is just as effective (its still all electronic with transponders etc) but you don't have 2 separate things to fiddle with to start & stop the car. It's also a lot smaller and neater on your key ring than the LR one, though admittedly, possibly not as rugged. I suspect the starter button may disappear at some point as people realise they did away with them in the early 70's for good reason. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

Anyone had issues starting the engine when it is very hot outside (100+)? I had two press the start button 3x before the engine would turn over. The first 2 cycles would turn the engine but it would not start, it acted like it was starved off fuel.

Don't forget that your FL2 is on petrol so starting will probably be different then the diesel that most of us have over here.
I have not driven a petrol since they were only with carburator and remember that while hot petrol vaporises much easier than diesel so this might be what you are experiencing. In normal turn key cars you probably just have to turn a bit longer to start but with the stsrt button everything is preprogamed so it might be normal behaviour.
Surely the Dubai forum members probably know everything about heat. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

United Arab Emirates 2008 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

I've never had any starting issues with my I6, even when it has been parked out in 45 C + (113 F).

Almost everyday at the moment it is 32 C + (90 F) in the basement parking and then for the rest of the day I am usually parked in the baking sun outside the office or at a customer site.

I am guessing that those which have starting issues from pushing the start button to soon after putting the fob in are all diesel owners.....because as soon as the fob is in I push the start button and it has never not started in the 3 months and 7000 km's I've had the car.

As the initial post was from an American member (and also another american member also posted the same problem) I asume the problem appeared in petrol FL2. Surely they don't get the same temp as you do so there seems to be a starting/software problem.
On diesels you just push the starting button and if necessary the FL2 automaticaly delays the star to allow the glow plugs to heat up. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

It is a Petrol Engine.....Took to the dealer 2 days ago and they indicated that "the hard start was caused by bad programming which was rectified by Campaign Q029". After I picked it up, I did notice a little bit more get up and go so there must have been some bad logic that requried a software fix.

C=(F-32)/1.8

37,8° C in this case
