Hi All,

Both of my key fobs are playing up. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't even after a good drive and being charged. I have decided to sort this as it's rather annoying. I have ordered two replacement batteries from eBay (VL2330 Panasonic Rechargeable).

I have searched the forum and noted that the change is not quite so simple with the soldering that is required. That's a problem for another day. once I have my parts.

Anyway I was also going to order two of the replacement fobs from eBay...24.99 a piece...Has anybody done this...they look exactly the same..it's just that mine now are worn out ( may be a reason why not working as apposed to the battery )

Obviously the key part I would retain and hope that they fit into new fob ok...the result I am trying to achieve is two nice shiny key fobs with new batteries...( once I have someone do the soldering for me - not brave enough )

If anyone has experience with fobs from eBay I would like to know how you got on please.

I bought a pair of cases from Amazon, £29.99 inc. postage. They look just like the originals and the original key fits, I'll be soldering mine up this weekend

there is a service on ebay that replaces the cases for you if your not up to messing about yourself Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Ah ok Tangiers Orange but I think the camera filter makes it slightly different.

We are now on our fourth fob so decided to open up the oldest one and investigate ..... 2 dead and one intermittent.
Tested the battery all good there. Found that if I pushed the battery against the board the fob would open the car and worked
perfectly. The outcome of all this is 2 fobs and the batteries have released + from board......tech soldered them for $33 AUD. Both work perfectly. Like all remotes they don't like to be dropped. (Says the tech). Intermittent remote might be loose terminal.
New FOB= $590 in Aust...oh well you learn something everyday, I should have looked before buying new one.

I now have the two replacement fobs €30 each and replacement batteries.....€15 all from eBay. Just need to open them up and get the soldering done ( something I won't be attempting)

Maybe I should have opened up and checked also...both fobs were working now and then...but they are both heavily worn out also so at least these will look shiny once I sort them

I used the fob refurbishment service off Ebay, from a business based in Liverpool, I think it was.

That was a few months back, and all still good.

I just changed the rechargeable battery in my freelander2 key fob, all back to fully operational again. A detailed video that I made, showing what's involved, is shown below (or search youtube channel "comeinhandynow" if that doesn't work. I did also discover a weak spot on the battery connection (shown in video) that may also explain some intermittences that others experience.

I just changed the fob and tried without changing batteries...they both work fine now..Fob worn out before maybe?
