My 2015MY SE tech does the same, I think it is to make the indicators more visible during daylight hours. You will see the same thing on many cars that have LED DRLs.

Not tried the hazard flashers though, do both go out if they are on?? |

Yes, I tried the hazards and both running lights go out when they're on. |
