Halford + bulbs = face palm

Youd think with the bulb id it would be easy to find what I want. Very little effort with no success was put in by two people who had better things to do.

Net result I walk out with nothing and vow to buy off the net...... And they wonder why the high street is closing !

England 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

I do, occasionally, walk into a Halfords. Purely out of curiosity, I have no intention of ever buying anything there.

I always wonder how they stay in business, there's never, ever, anybody at the checkout buying anything.

Last week I noted that an item I'd spotted earlier in Wilkinson's was on offer in Halfords at over twice W's price! Series 2A 1961, 1975-78, made to last forever.
Series 3 Lightweight, 1973, 1999 - 2012, still regret selling this car.
Freelander 1, 2005, 2005 - 2008, sold the minute its warranty expired.
Defender 90 200 TDi, 1985, 2012 - 2014, paid far too much for it.
Defender Wolf, 1998, 300 TDi, 2017 - 2019, too expensive to maintain and the Army hadn't.
Defender Puma, 2009, 2014 - 2014, not a sensible family car.
Freelander 2, 2012, current, is this the car to last?

The main market seems to be selling bling to seventeen year olds with Saxo's etc.
Overheard two boys in Halfords a while ago discussing stereo upgrade, the twelve year old assistant asked them what stereo they currently have, "don't know" he replied, "haven't bought a car yet" Thud

Our local Halfords seems to be concentrating on the bike market as they have now moved that department down from the mezzanine where it was and all the motoring stuff is now upstairs.

The stereos/sat-navs/tat is still all downstairs. Lukily the caravan stuff is still there also Very Happy GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

I have read nothing but bad reviews about their bikes. Cheaply made and poorly put together by the twelve year old Halford's "engineers". Series 2A 1961, 1975-78, made to last forever.

I must be in the minority.

I've had nothing but good service from the branch of Halfords I visit - and the shop is not local to where I live. Out of quickness I needed to install a bulb on the run, and they were nothing but helpful. The young guy who installed the bulb was polite and really helpful.

Similarly, most other experiences have been like that polite helpful service.

I do agree and think that due to the nature of car stereos etc, Halfords are knocking back on those kind of items due to the internet, and concentrating on other products - car cleaning, oils and bikes and bike accessories.

I often feel there is also a certain amount of snobbery towards Halfrods, with the ICE gurus hitting out at them, the detailers hitting out at them for not having crazy priced cleaning products for Joe Average and if there's no 3 for 2 on cleaning etc etc, but overall I find that they hold a wide enough stock for the average guy.

Many years ago I bought a Halfords bike for my twelve year old. He had bent the front forks beyond repair with a couple of months. I then got him a decent second hand bike for about the same price which survived him.

I used to work with some serious offroad bikers who would go out into the Peak District at weekends. For a bet they each bought a Halfords "offroad" bike and took them out for the weekend with the aim of seeing who came back with it in the most bits. (These guys probably spent as much on a set of pedals as the Halfords bike cost). GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

The guys on the D3 forum sware by (not at) their pro tool chests/ boxes and spanners/socket sets with life time warranty which are often available on offer. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

The Pro stuff is good, as are the boxes, but you need to time it right, wait for the sales, can be anytime.

Our local has also moved the bike down stairs and parts department upstairs. I use their pro tools a lot and get my bulbs etc there but that's because the trade card makes something's affordable. Not a consistent saving across the range but can be very good.
The staff I generally find incompetent and uninterested.
Took my astra for pre-booked air con re-gas to get told 1hour after I dropped it off that they couldn't get the connector on and they have never done an astra in the 10 years the two guys had worked there. I mean come on it's not like astras are rare.
Will be up for sale though as soon as I pick up the SE tech next month. Roll on September 6th.

I use a local car parts factor place. Much more knowledgeable and cheaper usually. I got 10 dual filament brake light bulbs for the Classic for the the price of 3 - it was cheaper to buy a box of them Thumbs Up * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013.
