On the first page of this thread, someone mentions a small Disco sport that would be sure to come. 5 years later ....

Well after a couple of months of ownership what's my opinion on the DS ? After a couple of weeks we had a faulty front parking sensor which knocked out the front and rear sensors , also the power tailgate wasn't opening as it should . These were resolved with a new front sensor from the dealer after the car was plugged in by my LR mechanic pal , this saved having to go to LR for diagnostic , the tailgate was sorted with a new catch due to a connector corroding in the old one , price for both parts £150 , the parking sensor being nearly £90 alone . The ride is nowhere near as good as the Fl2 even running on the same size 19" wheels , it's quite a firm ride and not to my liking tbh . The interior is a nice place to be but I think it's lacking a bit in quality for a 40k ish when new . The tailgate has also stopped working again and probably needs some sort of reset . The golden question is would I recommend one to someone with a nice Fl2 and my answer to that is a definite NO . I may even return to Fl2 ownership myself if I could locate a very late Sd4 . Some people will love their Ds but I just can't seem to settle with it and deeply regret letting two Fl2's and a chuck of cash go for the Ds . That's my honest opinion and hope it may help some Fl2 owners .

Sorry to hear that Mark, seems Freelanders are still the equal of a DS. Certainly priced highly enough still for late low milers. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I'd say the Fl2 is the better proposition for longterm ownership Bob . If I could find a nice low mileage Sd4 Dynamic in Borolo black with full black leather interior I'd probably out the Ds tbh . I've got a little Ford Bmax 1.0 ecoboost for running around in and I prefer taking that over the Ds . The first few weeks of Ds ownership was OK but I was constantly comparing it to the Fl2 , the wife's not a big lover either as the driving position is much lower than the Fl2 . Just a bit peeved we got shut of two really good examples and end up with something that where not 100% happy with .

Give the DS a chance, it took me 20k before I stopped longing for the FL2.

The wife uses it more than me Andy tbh , she's settling in with it but misses the high driving position of the Fl2 . The D240 Ds sounds like the one to have .

Another update on the Ds , the tailgate is refusing to open and shut correctly and a faulty strut is required , also the rear nearside inner lamp is letting water in , this has gradually got worse and now will require a new unit . I'm still not bonding with this car and would seriously consider getting shut , the usual places are offering more than what we paid 6 months ago , not sure what it's replacement would be or just sell it and wait until prices settle down . The little Bmax is still running like a dream but doing less miles as I have recently changed jobs and now have a works van .

If you really don't need a car now is definitely the time to sell. Long waiting times for new cars are driving up the price of S.hand cars. Just come out of a 3 year lease,!! then you could be waiting for over 12 months for the car of your choice, and need something to fill in - S.hand prices are up +25% on this time last year and are not going to fall any time soon. The bubble has to burst and if you can afford to wait do it. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Just had a reminder from WBAC. A week or two ago I asked for a valuation on my 14 lplate XS SD4 with 60k miles and it came back as £12650. Today it has come in at £11100. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

If you do decide to get out of the DS and back into a FL2 then have a look at Carbridge Car Sales between Chesterfield and Alfreton in a place called Stretton on the A61. Got my 63 plate HSE Lux from there and although ive had to replace the washer bottle pump which wasnt working right since i got it overall its a nice car with good history and a reasonable price at the time. They now have a nice looking black Dynamic with similar age/mileage but for £1k more than i paid for the Lux !!! Garage down the road from me (SD Automotive in Sutton in Ashfield) has a similar age/mileage HSE Lux in that is up for £3k more than i paid for mine !!! |

Heard good reports on the new "Motorway" car buying site. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.
