The motoring press reports highlighting a 60% surge in Shogun sales suggests that a fairly tired old design like the Shogun still has rather a lot to offer now that LR are totally obsessed with technological wizardry and chasing "premium " customers. A proper job 4 x 4 with a proper drive line, a 5 year warranty and enough grunt to pull a tank for about £30k!
Mitsubishi must be laughing all the way to the bank - the price of the Shogun has actually gone up despite it being due for replacement. Don't know how many they are selling but odd that I have seen more shiny new Shoguns today on a two hour drive than DislocatedSports.....

Up here it's still pretty much LR territory, my dealer is just down the road from the Mitsubishi dealer and the shoguns seem to hang around a lot longer than the Discos. They have about 10 L200s sitting all in black and have been there for weeks, what does seem to be selling well up here is the Outlander PHEV.

I personally think the current Disco has still got plenty of miles left in it, it's an iconic shape that is unique amongst this ever increasing desire to go curvy. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Around here there is a lot of new Discos. I also think there is a lot of life left in it.

All the other cars all look the same. It is one of the extremely few cars which is not a blancmange! 'It is usually set in a mould and served cold'

I still prefer the D3 grill. The Disco was about 20 years ahead in it's design and will still look the part in another 20 years.

In a decade the Freelander will look more modern than any of the current cars, including the DS. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I was in my local LR dealers the other day and they had a 5 seater DS in the showroom. It also had the blue sport badge on the back, indicating it was the low CO2 model, so 150PS? It had a spare wheel as well, though I can't remember if it was full size or not.

Maybe this should be offered as an option in all trim specifications to those who don't want seven seats.

The fit and finish looked better than my 15 MY Freelander and the old 2.2 version I drove in Jan was nice. I get to drive one off road soon, so am looking forward to that, hopefully it'll be the Ingenium engined version.

I must be in the minority of people here, as I really like the DS. I wanted one, but couldn't stretch to the price of one when my old car finally wound me up once too often by breaking down again. Still it means that all the snags should be sorted when it's time for me too change again.

Gav.

Unlikely to be an Ingenium engine one if you're going to a LR Experience Centre as they are still using 2015MY vehicles with the previous engine.

At the dealers as I type, having a chat with my salesman and he said a baby Freely is on its way, no doubt branded as a Disco of some sort, perhaps 2017/18 after the Full Fat Disco. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Totally expect so and will be Mazda Cx3 size. But LR need to be far more proactive with their model lineup/realinement with the market! I'm also hoping that they realise that having a family cohesion is not the same as making them all look the same as an Evoque because its flavour of the month. Dangerous plan until the next marque comes along with the next "it" car and all the fickle buyers leave LR. MY15

Baby FL2

At last, LR person confirming what many of us had heard around ......... a baby FL2/DS/or whatever. Please, please may it contain some of the essential features they "forgot" when designing the much awaited DS, like command driving position & stadium seating in the back, a rear-end that doesn't drop away like the Ewoke & DS limiting height of boot-space, a spare wheel etc.!! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

I was looking around the dealership at Evoques and Disco Sports, and always thought I prefered the DS to Evoque but I think it's the other way round, the Evoque isn't trying to be something it's not, it has its own niche market, where as the DS is, I won't say replacing, but filling a gap left by a previous model which set the bar pretty high as an all rounder. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I drove through Bridport in Dorset the other day, there is a Mitsubishi dealer there and it was noticeable how many of their vehicles were about. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Newest shoguns up here I've seen are around an 11 plate. There is one 15 plate used as a maintence highway vehicle. Shoguns have failed up here! All they are is an overpriced 2WD car Rolling Eyes Permanent four wheel drive is needed up here roads are always moist and winters can be extremely harsh. Not to mention if your pulling a trailer regularly can't go wrong with a permanent four wheel drive system Thumbs Up MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

If the DS came priced @ about £30K with 2wd high, 4wd high, 4wd high centre diff locked and 4wd Low centre diff locked, a 3000kg towing capability and 700 mm wading depth I think I would have one...... but alas we are unlikely to see such a spec until (maybe) a replacement Defender arrives.

My Freelander is in the dealers again and now I have a Disco sport auto as a courtesy car. All I can say is that it's obviously been designed for the school run market. It drives nicely but it's not a very practical vehicle. I don't want two silly seats in the boot, I want a spare wheel and I don't need an electric boot opener. The rear seats don't seem to fold down flat properly and the boot opening isn't really big enough to get a builders dumpy bag full of garden rubbish in. Ground clearance under the rear trailing arms doesn't look too good either.
I am clearly not part of their target market. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

sort of agree

Electric boot thingy - WTF, waste of money, would prefer to have been given rubber floor mats or ANYTHING else
7 seats does not suit all, many prefer a spare wheel - I would like both .....
Trailing arm clearance isnt amazing - but then look at the discovery its clearance is reduced here, and how many of us really need such clearance. I am off road loads, and it isnt an issue for me, though the bloody side steps are.

oh, and yes the rear seats not folding flat is a pain, but the boot is huge, so I forgive this
