Heated Seats Retrofit MY15 L359 - COMPLETED

Well, here we go, this one can only be described as crazy as I'm in Australia but you know what they say about people who are crazy - they're the most fun to be around! Rolling with laughter Thud
I have a very small window of opportunity here in AU to get use out of this so I'm hoping to have this done ASAP but as I'm at the mercy of locating and sourcing parts it may likely be completed for my friends in the UK in time for your winter and my summer! Rolling with laughter
Either way I hope this puts an end to the constant mantra from LR Dealers and Naysayers that "this cannot be done" and I get to have some fun in the meantime!
First thing you need to do is to make sure your floor harness has the wiring to each front seat, there is 3 required for the seat heating. The "floor harness" connects to the "seat harness" through a rather interesting plug on the outboard runner of each seat. On earlier MY13's this can also be attached to a plate mounted under the seat. Seems like LR changed the design of the seats somewhere between MY13 to MY15 but wiring is the same. On that note, previous to MY13 there is wiring/module differences.

On the passenger side the seat heating wires are in locations 1, 2 and 4. So top left hand top, quadruple female pins.

Position 1 Violet (Ign from RJB/fuse), Position 2 Brown/Violet (Lin from Climate Control ECU) and Position 4 Black/Blue (Gnd). If you look closely you can just see the BK/BU wire hiding behind the two wires mentioned previously.

Drivers Side is Grey, Brown/Violet, Black respectively.
Assuming you have the wiring at this point you can proceed, otherwise you will need to feed these wires in from the RJB and Climate Control ECU, not impossible!
In my case all wiring is present and if you have electric memory seats I think you will also.

On the Seat Harness side of this plug you have plugs for various systems on the seat, airbags, pre-tensioners, electric motors, memory module, seat heaters etc. As I said earlier this is the passenger side so a couple plugs missing for memory module etc but top right is the plug for the harness which goes to the Heated Seat Module.

This is going to be the hardest bit to find for this retrofit as it's a separate part which has 3 wires Laughing . Everything else just plugs into the Heated Seat module. So I'm planning a trip to a Jaguar wreckers tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to pick up a couple of these 30cm harnesses. But if not, this won't stop me!

Have already sourced a few other bits but will expand on these a little later.

On the subject of CCF, it will require no less than editing 3 fields to enable Heated Seats, that i've identified so far!

Will keep you updated on my progress in between other project as parts arrive. MY15

Australia's alpine area is larger than Switzerland. Ok, our mountains are lower but people don't realise when we get a Low between us & New Zealand together with a High in the Australian Bight the cold winds from Antarctic reach all the way to Queensland. All the towns west of the dividing range get this miserable bitter cold. Even brass monkeys get permanent damage!

lol!
I know, but our Winter is fairly short! (Thank God!) and i've left my window of opportunity a little late to enjoy a warm "tush" and probably by the time ive finished this i'll be dialing the climate control down rather than up. Laughing MY15

"Stone The Crows"!
"Streuth"!
"O. M. G. !
No need to get one from wreckers, part is available from LR! Thud

LR003717 is current part number but I'll confirm later.

Sort of disappointed now! Not really a retrofit without at least having to make one harness! Shocked MY15

Whilst I wait for all my bits to arrive my attention is now on removing upholstery. Trying to find a Land Rover let alone a Freelander 2 with heated seats would be like finding a "honest politician", so my chances to have a look at wiring pathways is non existent so would be great if someone from the colder regions could advise me, even put a pic up.
I've had a search on the forum but would like some guidance on some of the following points!

1. The seat pan will pull out once I have undone the "two" (2 or is there more?) bolts underneath the front of each pan?

2. The seat pan has a largish hole towards the back. Is this where the squab heater mat wire comes out also, like the occupancy sensor wire?

3. On the inboard area of pan there is a supplied vacant clip. Is this where the seat back heater mat wire goes or both squab and back seat heater mat wires?

4. In other threads there is mention of "round springs" holding the squab leather upholstery in place. Can someone explain this a little clearer please?

5. Seats back upholstery - how do you release cover at the bottom and is it required to remove plastic covers at side of chair?

6. Where does the seat back heater mat wire exit the seat back? Could someone advise me or even better post a pic?
Thank you.

The "round springs" are basically wire loops which run through the seat foam cushion and loop around rods which are stitched into the seams where the large pieces of leather are stitched together.

It's kind of hard to explain. But you will need to cut those loops out with wire cutters in order to separate the seat cover from the foam cushion. and when you go to put them back together, you'll need to come up with a way of replacing them.

When I took the seat cover off the foam base in my XJR I used the smallest possible cable ties to put it back. Just make sure the heads of the cable ties are pointing down into the foam, not up into the leather.

Some of my pics here http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/detailin...ost1047748

You can see in the foam there are many "slots" this is where those hook/loop/things are.

You will need to take the entire seat out of the car, well I would anyhow, much easier to work that way. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

The round springs your referring to are called "hog rings" and you can also buy "hog ring pliers" to make the rings clamp back together correctly or just use normal pliers.

Thanks Cambo, that makes things a lot clearer now. Thumbs Up
I was going to try and reuse the "Hog rings" by using a pair of "Circlip" pliers to open them up.
Would you recommend straight or angled to make the job easier?

I'd then use some long nose multi-grips to close.

Just one more question? Does the seat back use this same system for the cover?

Thanks for your help Cambo and Ginna104 Thumbs Up , i'd rather have a plan and tools at hand rather than winging it on the day. MY15

Hello
It is best to cut the existing panels and put new instead using the clamp. I redid the entire inside of my Freelander like this
