It generally happens on occasions, there is enough lube already but it needs spreading around.

Push the whole mirror housing towards the front of car, it will give a click/clunk sometimes but then move it too and fro followed by some silican spray around the moving parts. |

By all means use WD40 to free them up if sticking, but WD40 isn't intended to be a lubricant (the WD stands for Water Dispersant, which is what it was originally intended for) so best to finish with a good spray of silicone or similar lubricant. |

Agreed, you must use a silicone lubricant. Best way of applying is as stated above but so you can be very liberal with the spray I have in the past tied an old hand towel behind the mirror like a baby's bib so it collects all the surplus lubricant and does not make a mess of the paintwork. A good alternative I've found to silicone spray is the DRY chain lube spray you can get for bikes. NOT the wet type, that gets everywhere, but the dry type is specifically formulated to creep and then stay put, without a wet surface. Works well for padlocks and outside door hinges. Happened when mine was 3 months old. Dealer technician sprayed a load of lubricant on it. I think it was silicon based. * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.
