My neighbours MY 11 HSE

When I changed my 07 TD4 GS for a 13 SD4 XS in January my neighbour was intrigued as to why I had bought another. Having extolled its virtues he then swapped his Jag for an 11 TD4 HSE a few months ago from a non-franchised dealer. He has just had it back after two weeks in the garage and £3500 work done under the dealer warranty!

It had started giving error messages (not sure what) and the dealer thought it was the ECU but faffed about a bit as he didn't want to change it. He now has replaced it plus the Haldex! Apparently the old Haldex wouldn't talk to the new ECU.

This all sounds quite alarming. Would the non-frachised dealer have managed to get this work done under LR warranty? If it was done by LR I'm surprised they couldn't get the Haldex and new ECU to communicate. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

Makes you wonder how long non franchised dealerships will survive. Cars are getting more and more complex and the manufacturers don't make all of their software tools available outside of the dealer networks anyway. I have a good indy nearby but even with a big investment in LR diagnostic kit they can't handle everything and don't have access to the LR technical guys.

Just wait until driverless cars come along, anyone who works on them will need serious public liability insurance behind them before they even open the bonnet. You won't need insurance to sit in one presumably.
