Info display

Hi Guys, really hoping someone can help. Due to go on caravanning holiday on Sunday so wont have time to go to LR. On a 300 round mile work trip yesterday I got an info display (same as low washer fluid level) showing the book icon and the legend "Transmission fault, traction reduced" This went after a stop for call of nature, then came on again after a few miles, but didnt show all the way back. 58 manual FR2 with 47K. Any suggestions gratefully received. Incidentally, when info showing, no change to running or performance. A bad days fishing is still better than a good day at work

Unless you can plug it in to Diagnostics and see what codes are being displayed it would really be guesswork.

The fact you're caravanning suggests that the transmission maybe getting hot and sending you a warning. Stopping cools it down until you get going again. Downhill and slower running will keep things under control hence different journeys may or may not trigger the warning.
First DIY check is the t/m fluid level. If OK, check you've not got leaves or a plastic bag in the grill limiting airflow to t/m (and t/m/ cooled if there is one - auto owners needed!) Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

As AD says, without looking to see what faults are logged we're just guessing, but the "traction reduced" message is normally associated with the four-wheel-drive system (Haldex, terrain response and all the sensors and actuators which it uses) rather than the gearbox itself.

As I've noted on another thread, the implication is likely to be that the car is operating in 2-wheel-drive with the Haldex disengaging drive to the rear. For the most part you won't notice a difference, but if you find yourself in a situation where you need the 4WD you probably won't have it.

Has anything been done recently which could affect the Haldex? For example, repairs to the rear diff?

Had the same issue - a few years ago, turned out to be a wheel sensor, they are used fro the ABS when braking and used by the traction control when driving.

As others have posted, get the fault code read, changing parts in the hope that you get the right one is an expensive way of fault finding, and can introduce even more faults. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
