Heated rear screen - how to check it is working?

Hi

I have just bought a lovely 2008 57 plate Freelander 2. I have been testing all the controls and have just tried out the rear heated windows - the light comes on but neither the screen or the mirrors appear to heat up. Obviously it is boiling hot at the moment, so does the heater only work in low temperatures or does it mean there is a problem?

I am having the rear windows tinted lightly next week and wanted to check that everything was all in order prior to having the work done.

Thanks for any help Smile

Ella

Apart from putting a boiled kettle in the back i don't know how you would know. Maybe a meter on the battery and see if it drops when the switch is turned on ?

Hi Ella, I noted you referred to the heated rear windows in plural. Just to put you right, only the tailgate window is heated. The lines in the side windows are radio aerials! The mirror heating is automatic and not controlled by the HRW switch.

I think you'll find that switching on the heated rear screen does activate the heated mirrors on MY07 - the way it operates changes with the 2011 revision I believe. 2011 SD4 HSE Auto

I used a laser thermometer on my front screen when I wanted to check it.

I recall that was not the case with my 08 SE and stated so in the manual. I will have to check my present HSE. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Thanks everyone Smile

I tried it last night and my mirrors do get warm (so they seem to be turned on by the rear screen option) but the rear screen doesn't seem to be hot but it could be to do with outside temperature. I didn't realise the lines in the side windows were ariels Laughing

You could try sitting in the back with the tailgate down and use your tongue, this is much more sensitive to heat, you won't feel warmth on the glass as you do with the mirrors.

Failing that the heated window should visibly dry the early morning dew Thumbs Up
