Sorted the holes now used epoxy adhesive and some thin plastic to stop any moisture getting in and replaced the Hunters Preston logo on the back window with a better one Thumbs Up

I pulled out the two plastic fixings covered the two holes over with reinforced sticky tape and fixed the plates on with double sided tape, never had one fall of yet and much neater.

Had a quick look at mine, it had 'Land Rover' plates originally, which Hunters have changed for their own, branded ugly plates and yes, drilled the holes. I can see why they are drilled, they are the same front and back and positioned to avoid any letters, the LR holes are quiet close together.
No excuse for drilling the tailgate but in all the time that this had been it must not have caused an issue.

I know people have had issues with them, as all dealers will have had issues, my personal experience of Hunters in Garstang has been exemplary and as I told them, it's the first time I have ever bought the same marque consecutively. I believe Giles has been at the garage for over 30 years, some accolade in a trade where staff are swapped and changed all too quickly.

My family have been involved in the motor trade for over 40 years with Mercedes and BMW dealerships, what goes on that customers don't see is mind boggling, the drilling of number plate holes is nothing compared to what I have seen over the years.

It's a great car, enjoy it and I'll keep a look out for you, maybe come to a meet, I'm going to organise another Halewood trip in late Spring and there is also CG's barbie do Thumbs Up

you are then left with a 6mm gap with a number plate wobbling about on pads that are to thick!

No Laughing

I once drove a customers car down the road, to 'blow' the water off, after washing it, they needed steam cleaning as there was still a protective wax residue in places. At about 60mph, the bonnet came up, bent back and the star (Merc) hit the sunroof.
This was 31st July, the guy collected his car the next day with a bonnet off an older car and a repaired sunroof, he was none the wiser, that was back 30 years ago but even today many things still go on.
We have seen people on the forums check on board cameras only to find the techs have blasted down the road at 100+ speeds. I checked my camera and they drove impeccably Laughing

Giles is a really nice bloke wish he was in on Sunday when I visited but had to deal with some really arragant bloke called Steve , I'm 57 so not some young kid just to shove under the carpet and be spoken to like he did specially when I've just parted with 30K of hard earned cash anyway problem sorted now .
Don't see what the problem is with the fixing screw being where the letters are just use a black or yellow screw I'm just dissapointed for the sake of a couple of quid why they couldn't fit the right size number plate because I'm sure thats all it comes down to .

Will look out for when there are meetings on would love to meet everyone and say hello

Thanks all for your worthwhile comments and help Thumbs Up Freelander Se Tech Orkney grey td4 manual 2014
