Hi All,

New to this forum - hopefully you'll be able to help as I'm at a complete loss! I have a 2009 Freelander 2 with 56,000 on the clock. It's been running great up until yesterday. Put the fob in the ignition and before I pressed start noticed a strange noise coming from the engine - never heard it before. Hard to describe (whirring/clicking?), but it sounds like a pump or motor running, but one that's not very well! Engine starts and runs without a problem, but I shut it down quickly without driving it. The same noise continues for several seconds after the engine stops and the ignition fob is out. The noise stops for a few seconds, starts again for a few more seconds (even sounds as though it's turning faster) and then stops completely. Just tried it again this morning to check if it was just a one-off, but it's done exactly the same thing. Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

Will it be the throttle body? Try a search.

Thanks Devondave - will try searching "throttle body" - any ideas on cost of repair?! Sounds expensive.

One of the posts gives various cost options I think.

Odds on to be the Throttle Body, the gears are giving up. Parts are around £130, a few have changed it themselves. As above Search Is your friend

I've also noticed that often when my car is switched off there is a kind of electronic whine coming from the engine.

Is this caused by the throttle body sticking?

Could this throttle body issue be causing the slow throttle responses and occasional jerkyness at low throttle that my car is experiencing. Green Discovery 300tdi Modified,

That whine you here is normal, it is just the Throttle Body resetting
