Air Con Valve & Pipe

Hi all,

My 2008 freelander 2 went into local garage few weeks ago to have a leak in the Air Con repaired, Under extended warranty, which was great as I've heard its a hefty bill.. anyways they noticed the high pressure service valve for air con was damaged and would need replaced, which is not covered under extended warranty.. This I was ok paying for as it was no where near bill what could have been..

Although now the garage has phoned back saying they cant remove this valve without damaging a pipe and that I would need to pay for this part also as would need replaced.. this brings my bill up quite bit further to the (Ooooft) factor (never thought a pipe would cost so much)

Do I have any case to take this further? As Im not happy paying for a part that's working just now but there tech cant remove without breaking.. arnt these things supposed to come apart and go back together! I've already logged a complaint with customer service but I think at end of day ill prob need to pay for both parts.. I would even pay half if they paid half..

anyone had similar issues??

Any Info appreciated

Neil

These days you don't need to replace whole pipes.sections can be made and valves added.
When garages are quoting 175.00 for a short section of air con pipe I can usually repair ( often in situ ) for about £75.00+ vat.
May be worth finding or talking too a specialist.

How has the airconditiong pipe become damaged ?
What's actually wrong ?
The only time the valves are usually damaged are when cheap Chinese copy valves have been fitted to AC machines and the valve get wound in too far ! When the machines been connected. Jaguar x-type sport gone

Thank you for the reply

The garage has quoted £240 for the original Valve (Land rover part) and the pipe is £240 also.. (also Land rover part) the car has only ever had work done withing approved land rover garage, as under warranty..

They have told me the cheap fix to the pipe cant be completed..

The pipe itself is not damaged, and working fine.. It is apparently seized in place, so will twist and damage if attempted to take off (garage tells me)

If an item is damaged in removal process but was fine before shouldn't that be down to the training and competence.. and also the garage to replace..??

Have all the services been carried out by the same dealer? As the only time the valve would be used is when working on the air-con and therefore must have been done by whoever has worked on it.

I had a similar thing with the bleed nipple on one of the front brakes and was told it was broken. So as I said to the garage, it would only get broken when being undone or done up and you are the only garage that has maintained the car so it must be down to you. They replaced the calliper free of charge. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

All services complete by garage that sold me the car.. approved land rover dealer, The repair is being carried out at another branch more local.. which is also an approved land rover dealer..

It is being replaced because the Air con evaporator needed replaced and they noticed this was damaged, (not sure how) So will need replaced but not covered under warranty.. the pipe thats causing the problems on the valve will not release from valve without being damaged.. So they want me to pay for that also..

I think I'd dig my heels in and insist it must have been damaged by the dealer network and it's up to them to sort it! 2011 SD4 HSE Auto
