United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Manual Santorini Black
2007 vs 2011

Hi everyone. For those of you that have had pre-2011 and post 2011 Freelanders would you say there is much of a difference between the two versions? i.e is it worth spending the extra £5k or so upgrading or are they very similar? I'm comparing the difference in engine/drive smoothness or quietness etc rather than cosmetics.

I know when I upgraded from a 2005 focus to a 2009 facelifted model the difference was incredible. totally different car to drive really. If this is the case also with the FL2 then I shall upgrade later next year.

Thanks
Gary

I'd suggest a test drive! Thumbs Up ...

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Orkney Grey

I went from a 2007 TD4 GS manual to a 2013 SD4 XS auto so for me the main difference is the engine and gearbox. As I use it for towing the difference is noticeable and it does make a much better tow car.

The rest of the car is essentially the same as when it was launched apart from the facelift and trim changes. Going for another TD4 GS manual probably won't make any noticeable difference. As piattj says take a test drive to see what you think. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

The 2011 model is nice, and a little nicer to drive than the 2007, but if budget allows, wait and go for a 2013 facelift as the whole technology side of things is better, along with a nicer drive, quieter, smoother etc. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. I've had an 07, 61 and 13 and they were incrementally better but I agree that the 13 changes improved the car very much. However the 61 plate was definately a better drive (tighter) than the 07.

if the cars really have got better what has changed? I thought they are all the same under the skin. Or is it simply that a newer car with less miles will feel better? I can't fault my MY07 HSE but it only has 30k on it.

Can't really explain it but it was definitely better. Mileage was always lower on newer model though.

Do you mean the mpg is actually worse on the newer cars?

No. I mean the newer cars had covered less miles. Mpg was fairly comparable 61 & 13.

Thanks for the advice, I'd love a 2013 so might wait a few years for that one.

Aha! Perhaps that's the reason they feel better.
