There are some (the wife) who believe tha a car is a means of transport. there is no joy in driving, and anything that makes it safer or less hassle is a good thing.

OK she would never buy a FL, then again she wouldn't spend more than 50p on a car unless I made her Very Happy

Would you be more comfortable turning the Auto lights off Question
I personally would love to know the specs and variables that both the auto lights and wipers use because to me the follow no logical pattern.

eg when I think it light enough they can come on and when I think its dark enough they dont....

Automatic Headlamps
The automatic headlamp function is a driver assistance system. The driver can override the system operation by selection of side lamp or headlamp on if the ambient light conditions require front and rear lighting to be active.
A light sensor is incorporated in the rain/light sensor located on the inside of the windshield, below the rear view mirror. The wiper system also uses the rain/light sensor for automatic wiper operation.
The light sensor measures the ambient light around the vehicle in a vertical direction and also the angular light level from the front of the vehicle. The rain/light sensor uses vehicle speed signals, wiper switch position and the park position of the front wipers to control the system.
The automatic headlamp operation uses ambient light levels which are monitored by photodiodes incorporated in the rain/light sensor. The rain/light sensor sends a lights on/off request to the CJB on the LIN bus, which responds by switching on the low beam headlamps, front side lamps, license plate lamps and rear tail lamps. The automatic headlamps are activated under the following conditions:
Twilight
Darkness
Rain
Tunnels
Underground or multistoried car parks.
Operation of the automatic headlamps requires the ignition to be on (power mode 6), the lighting control rotary switch to be in the 'AUTO' position and a lights on request signal from the light sensor.

Simple set up really Laughing

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Tonga Green

I recently had my windscreen replaced for a non oem one and the control unit for the auto lights and wipers appeared to come pre fitted .

If they are pre fitted and not oem then possibly they could cause the lights to be less or more sensitive?

My lights and wipers seem fine and work as they should but people who have lights that are too sensitive etc could check the screen and see if it is oem.

Latvia 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tonga Green

Hello Freel2 owners.

Just came back with my freel2 to my home country and have a question here on automatic lights.
The thing is that it worked fine in western countries, but here in Nordic countries we are obligate to use lights on 24/7 all year around.

So i am now a bit annoyed to switch on and off lights every time i pull of.

Was thinking of auto button. but this function is clever and uses ambient light. but i would like to have it on constantly.

Therefore i wonder if any has any glue how to do it. it should be simple as putting some 2 wires in shortcut to bypass rain/ambient sensor on the screen. Question is, where to do that the best, is it switch or somewhere else.
Maybe it could be programmed in ECU that way, because i doubt that norway sweden and other countries arent offered such an option.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Your dealer will switch that option on for you, ask for 'Scandinavian mode'

Because they go off or does not go on when there is beautiful day outside. but here in Nordic we must use front lights on even then
