painting with Rattle Cans advice

Anybody got any tips regarding painting with rattle cans

Idea is to lightly sand the garden furniture down, with something like 2000 grit sand paper,

rattle can prime it, rub down with sand paper
rattle can paint it, rub down with sand paper
rattle can paint it,
Rattle can Clear coat

Its a garden furniture set, metal frames and chair legs, at the moment its grey and loosing its coating(paint) and i fancy freshening it up, with Rustoleum Painters Touch Black Matt spray paint which seems to look the business

Its six foot by 3 foot, will i spray the whole 6 foot length or spray back wards and forwards in 12 to 18" sections (releasing the spray button at each change of direction) Embarassed

if it looks Censored ill just buy a new set, but for 3 cans of each and p&p costing £35 i thought i would have a play first Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

In my humble opinion, 2000 grit wet and dry is for polishing imperfections out of paintwork and will not key the surface for a repaint. Use a180 grit lightly to key the first coat, or perhaps a240 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Initial 240, then 600 or 800 between coats. Always spray mid flow of arm sweep to give best results.

For masking of the seating area, I was thinking masking tape and newspaper, it newspaper ok or do I need to use another type? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Take to the local alloy wheel repairer and have it grit blasted and powder coated. They even do PINK

Thought about that, but the seats/backs are the woven plastic type, so won't come off

Plastidiped one of the legs the other week and quite liked the look, but it wasn't usable enough Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
