Ripples in leather

I have just noticed whilst waiting in the car that my nearside back passager seat has some ripples Confused Tbh I never noticed this before but the rear seats have only been used about 4 times.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? I'll get my dealer to take a look and see if it is a warranty job or not, once I have time to pop in past.

There's quite a few complain of the same on their rear seats rippling on the Evoque forums. Personally I think it looks right - don't like leather seats without a bit of ripple. Rippleless leather reminds me of pleather! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Wouldn't be too bad if all the seats went like that Steve at least then they would all be the same. One of our D4's has got Premium Windsor leather and it looks nice.

Have exactly the same the standard leather seats, since the car is 2008 i think it will stay like this and won't get worse
all and all for 2008 car the seats still keep their look as new

The problem is because the sides are made of vinyl and the front panels which show your ripples are low quality leather.

Leather moves and stretches and vinyl doesn't. So something has to give. The best way to improve it, is to use a hair dryer or heat gun and gently heat up the leather by waving the dryer/gun over the effected area.

The leather ripples will then shrink and disappear. Well most will, but they will come back again. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

When i searched for a car i looked at the Q5 too (early models) ,maybe it was just luck but all the freelander's i saw had leather seats in very good condition while on the Q5 age was showing especially on the driver seat.
I don't know to distinguish between leather's quality but i know that it is better then others.
So i disagree with "low quality leather"

I have a lot of experience with car leather. My last 9 cars (excluding the land rovers) have all been re-trimmed in bridge of wier leather and you get to know what is good and bad. A good buddy of mine has a re-trimming company where I have learnt a lot.

The standard leather used by Land Rover is a basic plastic coated thin leather. It is awful, and Audi/BMW use the same type.

That said, you wouldn't see these problems if the seats were all leather, as the covers could all move in unity. But as 3/4 of the Freelander 2's interior is plastic/vinyl fake leather it doesn't move together. So the leather is stretched and the vinyl doesn't. Only the seat faces are leather.

Mercedes use Artico man made 'leather' for their basic interiors which doesn't stretch and ripple for this very reason. All manufacturers then offer a proper leather interior for a cost option.

I have the premium Winsor leather in mine, and although it is better than standard, it still isn't good, and still has vinyl sides and backs.

But the basic stuff is the cheapest leather available to use in a car interior. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Hi
I have found from past practice that gentle massage will, after a short time remove most wrinkles.
