I have just inherited the wife's old freelander , it's an 07 plate and it has never been polished and has only ever been washed in a car wash, it is looking more grey than black now, what products would you recommend to get the car looking black once more?

Cleaning cars is not something I specialise in as I have owned a pick up truck fir the last 7 years! Black FL2

Wash it, clay it, polish it then a good waxing.... Will look like new

A sponge and bucket is fine mate, some people like to use the two bucket system so you always plunge the sponge into one bucket to clean of abrasive materials before then using the second bucket to wash the car with.
I would suggest jet washing or hosing down the car first to get rid of loose dirt/grit etc.

Don't use a sponge, they trap grit that then scratches the paintwork. Use a lambswool or microfibre wash mitt. PH neutral soap in one bucket, clean water in another. Mitt in soap bucket, wash, rinse in clean bucket, squeeze out and start again. I like to snow foam the car first to get rid of a lot of loose dirt.

True, but everything can trap grit. I have used sponges, brushes, mitts and cloths, never had a problem with any (I don't use the two buckets either). A good rinse off (yes, sometimes with snow foam) then a wash!

Ive not used it yet, its got some good reviews on detailing world. I must point out that my car is Alaska White so doesn't show scratches easily, I don't know what the mit would be like on a black car but like I said over on Detailing World people do rate it.

I've recently bought some Autoglym products from Halfords on their 3 for 2 offer. I recently had my bumper repainted and the fella at the paint shop swore by Autoglym. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Got one of these last week after reading good reviews. It really does the job, as well as being long enough to clean the inside of the wheel too.
