Osprey have a pretty good reputation. I'm personally a huge fan of Lowe Alpine. If you can find one the Airzone Centro 35 is a brilliant rucksack for day tripping. Mine has taken several years of hard use and is still going strong. Osprey always come out well in the gear reviews though. With regard to water bottles, buy a Sigg-nothing else comes close for durability. |

Yes that is correct for the water bottles. They are a little more than other brands but it is like comparing a FL2 to a KIA-both are ok on the road but one is considerably more durable off it! I personally prefer to travel quite light and just use a 1Litre water bottle for autumn/winter walking. 3kg (or 3L) doesn't sound much but it is if you are humping it around all day and not drinking it. Hope that helps. |

Personally unless it's a hot day I wouldn't consider taking on water for a 15 mile hill walk or a half marathon run, |

Not current thinking , more chance of depleting mineral reserves and getting hyponeutrenia by over hydrating( potentially fatal) than getting ill effects from under hydration. |

AFAIK there has not been one death of a casual walker from over hydration, on a warm/hot sunny day it will be enough to take 2L of water with you for a day's walk and just drink when you are thirsty, simple

38L seems big if you're only looking at a day's walk.

The reviews state it's a great day sack, as it has compression straps on the side to reduce the size, so you get best of both worlds.

If you have a Cotswold Outdoors shop nearby, pop in and tell them what you're after. The one near me have always been incredibly helpful, with the staff very knowledgeable, without trying to sell me stuff I don't need or outside my budget. |
