I'll be driving mine around Toronto in July. I get excited whenever I see an LR2.

I remember when we got our smart 3 years ago there were none on the road, but now they are all over TO.

We need to organize a meet n greet at the beaches so we can test the sand setting. Wink

Sounds like a very good idea. I am in. Not sure about the cactus setting though - that might be a challenge Smile We rather have places for mud setting. I tested it yesterday and it worked great. The only problem was the summer tires as they totally refused to bite into the sides of the ruts and I had to use a shovel to get out of the ruts.

No offence taken.

We do get a lot of snow and it would be a good place to test it. i can't wait to see how it does this winter compared to my Grand Am GT (I got it and the smart stuck 5 times this record breaking winter in Toronto).

LR2 does great in snow. I climbed up a road next to one of Talisman ski hill's runs without any problem and I drove through about 30cm of fresh snow without any problem either. And all that was with the OE tires. But for the next winter I am going to put better tires - even with all the electronics it is too dangerous to keep OE tires.

I'm glad to hear from someone other than the salesman that it is good in 30 cm of snow! The dealer did say he didn't think winter tires were required. Would you disagree? Any idea how much they would be? I know the winter tires on my smart were like night and day compared to the stock tires. Coming soon: LR2 HSE; Alaska White; Nav; Premium Sound; Bluetooth; Lighting Package

I use the "Mud" settings when driving through construction sites, works great. Haven't had a chance to use the "Sand" setting yet either.

Not much chance Rolling with laughter
But you could try "sand" if you want a very fast response and the car leaving without you.
Real crisp response.
You can actually try all TR settings in normal conditions just to see the difference between the responses. Actually it is sort of recommended to try the different settings before going off-road. Also as LR says using a wrong TR setting won't immediately damage your car .
Snow can also be used in trafficj ams.
Yhis does not mean that you should not use the appropiate settin. Just that you should try all settings before you go off-road or are in a situation to have to use them.T
The tyres, at least what we get over here are all weather with some mud and snow abillities.

The OE tires (Conti CrossContact UHP) are all right in fresh snow but they are terrible in icy conditions which is no surprise because these tires are high performance summer tires. Even with all the electronics I had several tough moments on icy roads.

In my opinion winter tires are not required but good all season tires would be a good idea. I decided to buy Nokian WR SUV tires: http://www.nokiantires.com/en/tire_wr_suv.aspx?season=summer These are not as good in summer as the OE tires but they must be way better in winter. They are expensive (about $340CAD per tire) but I think they are worth it. Also they come in the right size and speed rating.

Mikhail

P.S. Finding tires for LR2 is a big problem. 235 is pretty much the widest tire that can be safely fit onto LR2 with the standard rims. If you do a search (tirerack.com, for example), you will see that there are no decent tires with this width in 18" or 19" size.

If only it was the tires... You also have an option to buy 17" rims which are impossible to buy here. There is a lot of very good 235/XX/17 tires and virtually no good 235/XX/18 or 235/XX/19 tires.

Those Nokian tires look great, but with brand new tires on the car I think I might opt to buy winter tires instead of an all season. Have any Canadians looked at buying steel wheels and winter rubber?

I don't drive very much (10k km per year give or take) so it could be a long while before I wear out the stock tires. Coming soon: LR2 HSE; Alaska White; Nav; Premium Sound; Bluetooth; Lighting Package

Steel wheels and winter tires will not save you a lot of money, I think. Plus you will have to store them somewhere... Plus TPMS (I am not sure if you can actually run LR2 on wheels without TPMS sensors)... Plus vehicle's look... Plus safety... But it is your choice Smile

Mikhail

P.S. I am not working for a tire dealer or tire maker Very Happy

I didn't think it would save me any money. I was looking for increased traction in cold winter conditions. But why buy all season tires for winter driving? Why not buy winter tires for winter and keep the summer tires for summer? Coming soon: LR2 HSE; Alaska White; Nav; Premium Sound; Bluetooth; Lighting Package

In my opinion, good all season tires provide more than acceptable winter traction hence there is no reason to put winter tires on although winter tires would definitely provide better winter traction. The increase in winter traction with winter tires is not worth the troubles of putting them on. But it is just my opinion Rolling Eyes

Winter tyres will increase the noise and fuel consuption due to more grip. The ride will be probably more unconfortable. It depends on how really heavy the winter is in your area - which beeing Canada are more likely to be heavy. If not required by law or your intentions to drive in heavy snoe all season tyres will do a good job. Any way you should bear in mind that even with the best witer tyres and spare snowchains in your boot if a couple of cars in front of you get stucked than it really is noting much you can do about but turn around. We heave it here all the time with cars summer equiped jamming up all the traffic and we surely do not have your winters. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

I have winter tires for my smart so I'm familiar with the downsides and upsides. I don't mind using a little more fuel for increased safety.

If I buy all seasons what do i do with the tires my new vehicle will come with? Coming soon: LR2 HSE; Alaska White; Nav; Premium Sound; Bluetooth; Lighting Package

Now as said before I think the FL2 comes with all season. Cannot actually imagine why LR would sell summer tyres as standard on an off road in Canada.
You sure the delivery tyres are summer? FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER
