High Pitched Noise at speed

Hi,
I have noticed a strange high pitched noise which seems to be coming from the back but only happens in a staight line at a constant speed.

I had that same problem, so I put the kid up for adoption.

Sorry, sorry... too much coffee this morning.

If it sounds like a high pitched jet engine whine, in my case it was the rear diff bearings. I first noticed it at about 50 / 60 mph on straight roads, and it stopped at slower speeds. After a few hundred miles it was starting at 30/40mph. Mine was repaired under warranty so can't give you a clue as to costs. Just my thoughts but could be something else. Thumbs Up

Thank you for reply,
Not sure if it is the same issue have been told by an independent Land Rover garage it may just be a tyre issue as have just had the fronts replaced but not the back. Which to be honest are getting close and we're not the best spec tyres when I bought the car. So will give changing the rears to the same as the fronts which are only two weeks old.

I have more of a drone at higher speed, turned out to be the cross/brace bar on the OE roof bars Wink

Same here Gordy. A tedious noise, worse on windy days with the wind at certain angles. Gave me a bit of worry though as I started to think it must be a sign that I had the dreaded rear diff. / Haldex / problem till a friend sat in the back and said the noise was definitely coming from the roof!

Thank you all for advise, do not have any mechanical noises as such so may be roof bars as have the OE fitted rails. Have also been told May be a park brake issue so new tyres and brake check over the next week. If still not sorted will carry on as have no intention of buying a Jap / Kor 4x4 ( so called ). If I see another Sportage I think I might ask the driver if he has given up on life.

Hi, thanks for advise have two new Wranglers fitted on Monday since then have done a 500 mile trip and no squealing. Only noise now is the cross bar on OE roof rails can live with that as love the look.

Yes very relieved ! Although would have done what needed to be done as it took me forever to find the car in the green with the tan half leather and all the toys. I am considering having it remapped have been quoted £195 for a full remap and tune, which would be a balance of more torque and economy.

If your going to get it remapped get it done by a reputable company,I heard so many stories when I had my D2 about cheap remaps and engines going bang a short while later.I've had mine done this week by Alive tuning including a full ECU update it cost a lot more than you have been quoted but peace of mind goes a long way and Gary goes above and beyond when it comes to the service.

I know my brother is on his third! Would love his mpg as he keeps reminding me. They just do not have the feel, driving position or curb appeal for me so will take the mpg hit and keep that warm feeling that it's Land Rover. By the way 800 miles down and no hint of the problem.

I know what you mean. The FL2 just had a better drive all round, but still like the look of the Korean stuff, even though they are all looking the same now . eg like Japanese bikes !
