The FL2 needs a lift kit and possibly even a body lift and some decent tyres for even the most basic of off road tracks. At the moment I could more than likely get a 2wd car as far as what I could get my FL2. Although I have taken my FL2 into some basic areas and it outperformed my expections, just tyres and ground clearance let it down. I think we some nice little modifications the FL2 will be unstoppable.
I think you're right, a few key mods, and the FL2 could be unstoppable.
An interesting thing I once heard was that someone in America tried to sue Land Rover for claiming that the original Freelander was a proper 4x4, as it had gotten stuck in some mud, where other 4x4s had gotten through. For LRs defense they sent a trained driver to the same area, he looked for the best route through, and drove straight through, avoiding the area where the previous guy got stuck. Their arguement was that it wasn't the car getting stuck, but the driver. They won. Or so the story goes.
