Freelander 2

Hi

I have a 2007 LR2 2.2 diesel auto sometimes when driving under acceleration there is a loss of power and the engine starts to judder and sometimes cuts out but starts straight afterwards.

I have scanned it keeps coming up with a P0045 Turbo/supercharger boost control solenoid circuit/open

any pointers would be great

thanks Neil

Presumably it runs ok normally, just this problem on acceleration. Symptoms are fuel supply problems, almost certainly. Not sure about "turbo solenoid", don't remember it coming up much on the forum. Maybe you need a proper dealer scan first. Do a search on the forum. Edit: I have just found one result that blamed a poor earth strap. Common problem and a quick cheap fix.

The turbo boost control solenoid, as the name suggests, controls the level of boost from the turbo, and a problem there could result in loss of power.

There seem to be a number of fault codes relating to the solenoid:

P0045 Turbo/supercharger boost control solenoid circuit/open
P0046 Turbo/supercharger boost control solenoid - circuit range/performance
P0047 Turbo/supercharger boost control solenoid - circuit low
P0048 Turbo/supercharger boost control solenoid - circuit high
P004E Turbocharger/supercharger boost control solenoid - A circuit intermittent/erratic

It could be as simple as a dodgy connection in the wiring.

Could it be that it is running out of breath?
.
The turbo creates pressure in the inlet manifold to effectively put compressed air into the engine,
.
If you are pressing on hard then the demand on the compressed air could be exceeding supply and manifold pressure will drop.
.
On the turbo there is a mechanical mechanism to regulate the amount of boost, the mechanical gubbins has a lever arm which in turn is operated by a servo motor.
.
There are reports on the forum of the 'ball' link (?) siezing up for which LR supply a repair kit of new arm and ball.
.
The fact that a fault code is bringing up the code might be because the servo has 'intelligence' so the engine computer knows where the setting should be yet in reality it's not actually reached its position indicating to itself that there is a problem.
.
Ummm, I hope that reads ok
.
Kind regards from Fred.

thanks dunkley201 will add an extra earth strap on tomorrow and go for a road test.

P0045 Turbo/supercharger boost control solenoid circuit/open i think suggests a wiring fault check wiring to turbo and and followed up the side of the engine all looks in tacked.
