Whilst at Duckworths for some repairs, the engine top cover was removed. This revealed a mouse had found its way in and made a meal of some of the wiring outer insulation. A simple repair was made FOC, no damage to the actual wiring! Thank you Duckworths!

With my previous FL I once did the occasional under bonnet check and found a collection of seeds on top of the starter motor. I removed them and then checked the next day. More had arrived. I then set a small trap strapped to one of the radiator cooling pipes. Went out later that evening to find a very dead mouse. Problem never reoccurred! 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

Friend had a whole nest of mice in his Rover 90 driver's seat. Didn't seem to worry him.

Not in a car but in my daughters last house, her intruder alarm stopped working and after testing the engineer found a wiring fault in wiring under the floor on the first floor level.

Lucky they aren't edible dormice. These were introduced in Tring and are gradually spreading outwards. They apparently get into the loft and eat everything in sight. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/wildlife/...reats.html

To get back on track: I lifted the engine cover to find small amounts of debris remaining around the No2 cylinder area which I vacuumed out. The underside of the engine cover had a 5" circle of foam insulation removed above No2. The "visitor" had also stripped off the black weave braided sleeve from the fuel pipe branch plus gnawed the black plastic connector. Other than that, no harm done. I will set a trap this weekend to see if anything is caught.
