Enjoy, fab place to tour with the van. make sure you visit Annecy if your going to the swiss border.

http://www.camping-la-colombiere.com/
Nice little site 2000mtrs up in the mountains overlooking the Alps. A visit to Chamonix is only an hour from here & Annecy about 20 mins. Easy to Park in underground carpark at Hotel deville by the lake.

La Colombière is definitely worth a visit. The old boy who started the camp site is still there and is quite a character. It is worth going on one of his guided tours if you get a chance. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

I can vouch for La Colombiere, we visited it eight years ago.

I should add that if you go to colombier try and get a pitch with trees and shade. The old chap will normally recommend it for the British as the Sun burns very quickly because your about 6000ft above sea level.

We normally visit the site once every three years often on the way down to the Ardeche or Provance and it never disappoints,
Few years ago they built a large water park down the road from the site.
You can walk out the site and around the corner and view lake Geneva and see the fountain and see the planes at Geneva airport.

Over the back of the site their is a superb mountain road with spectacular views always worth a trip round with a picnic. Jaguar x-type sport gone

Thumbs Up thanks for the recommendation, no site decided as yet so will be short listing tomorrow.

Back to topic I find sometimes that 'sport' mode is more favourable off motorway as at my towing speed it tends to be a little undecided which gear it wants to stay in when in 'drive'. I prefer it to hold the gear longer when on the single carriageway, up, down and bendy roads. So far covered about 1600 miles and the car as behaved flawlessly ......... so far, with no oil being used and average towing fuel mainly off motorway being 27/28 mpg.

More food = more toileting, hence less pool and bar time. Suggest not eating and using pool for No.1's!!!

Stayed at Annecy and took the rack and pinion electric train about 1800 metres up Mont Blanc, afterwards met a motorhome on an alpine road and had a clash of wing mirrors so new glass and spray job needed but still towing well after 3890 kilometres trip.
Now in the Jura mountain district for a few days still bordering Switzerland.

Sounds fantastic mate (excluding the wing mirror clash), I bet the scenery is something to remember.

Over 4000 km showing for the round France trip and still towing well, now near Arras and north of Paris. Scenery now more like the rolling hills of the yorkshire dales, visited the Somme WW1 sites, monuments, front line and cemeteries and really is an eye opener, not expecting the emotional experience I felt.
Moving on to a site at Wimereux near Bologne on Friday in readiness for Saturdays eurotunnel home.
Really enjoyed it 'Wiz' and no more bodywork damage yet Andy, fingers crossed. Sad Whistle

Good to hear the car is behaving and you are enjoying the towing experience. Just to add, that you mention Wimereaux - my great grandfather is buried in Wimereaux war cemetery. He was a gunner in the Royal Artillery, killed by an exploding mortar shell about 2 months before armistice, aged 24. Always said would take my dad over to see the grave. This might be the year to do it. 2011 XS SD4, Indus Silver (Getting to love it more and more)
2012 HSE Manual, Santorini Black (Loved it and did not want to let it go)
2011 Honda CRV EX IDTEC (Gone and never really loved)
2007 HONDA CRV CDT-I Exec (Gone and really missed)
