Oli leaking from air inlet of turbo. Code P0299

Hi guys this is my first post.
Freelander is my wife's car and I'm getting it in the ear for not sorting this problem so any help appreciated.
I've just investigated around the turbo as I'm getting code P0299. There appears to be a small amount of oil leaking out of the turbo on the air inlet side, is this normal? in addition the air filter was very dirty with oily deposits (have replaced as thought this may be cause).
Have reset code couple of times but keeps recurring.
Symptoms are an occasional small "cough / judder" when accelerating, otherwise drives OK.
I'm fairly competent in a garage, recently replaced rear diff unit as it was suffering from the dreaded whine of the pinion bearing, and have replaced turbos on other cars.

Any help or guidance on this problem gratefully received.

P0299 is an under boost issue.
Have you checked all the boost pipes for leaks and check the air intake pipe after the AFM as few have suffered splits where the AFM monitors less air and and then the engine under fuels so you get less boost.

Has the fuel filter been replaced recently ? Jaguar x-type sport gone

Thanks for the tips Oldgeezer. I'll check these items out. Not sure about fuel filter will look at last few invoices but probably worth replacing anyway. Old enough to know better, too young at heart to care.
