Grinding noise in multistorey car parks

Hi,
I have 3 months old FL2 (MY2013) and have noticed a unusual noise when going downwards in a circle exiting multi storey car parks. It is as if the wheels are rubbing off the side of the vehicle when turned so much. Seems to happen worse when wet.
I've had a look with wheels on full lock when home in driveway but cannot see anything wrong or obstructing it.
Any idea what to check - or is this just normal? Sorry - new to Freelander!!

It could be that on full lock the pressure in the steering system is at maximum, this gives an unusual noise, the tyres could also be slipping across the surface making a noise, mine squeal loudly on some surfaces without any speed involved.
Hold the lock on full on the drive and you may hear the effect.

This happens in a multi-storey in East Kilbride but not other similar ones. I think it is the ribbed surface of the concrete. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Thanks for suggestions.
It was in Cambridge St in Glasgow. It could well be the surface and tyre slip like Taz suggested. I know it squeals going round corners (slowly) into the car park but this was frightening coming out - so I had to pull over and stop. I couldn't have been going any more than 5mph but as I was on the roof parked the tyres and car was wet. Once I finished the turning part everything sounds normal and I've driven 100 miles today and no problems at all. I'll watch out for it next time I'm in a car park there and its daylight!!
Tried full lock in drive but not really noticed anything.

I have just had another thought...
I have a habit of keeping the clutch in to control the car rather than leaving it fully in 1st gear (too slow) or 2nd gear (too fast!) so the ECO thing may be kicking in - is it movement triggered? I will try switching ECO mode off next time too.

Had the same at the weekend. Wet tyres and full lock coming down from the top level. 1st time I thought I had clipped the curb as it wasn't the usual tyre squeal. Happened on every level going from the flat down onto the ramp.

I'm told 2nd gear + HDC is the perfect speed for the ramps in a local car park here.. Smile

All the 4WD cars I've had have squealed in the tight cornering required in multi-storey car parks. It's a feature. 2011 MY SD4 HSE + planning some interesting stuff

Sounds like a good way to kill your clutch quickly.

When I was taught to drive, I was told that the clutch pedal should either be all the way down, or your foot shouldn't be touching it, except for hill starts. Not always possible, but a good thing to aim for. Try 2nd + HDC if you have to, or 2nd + a touch of brake. Brake pads are cheaper than clutches.. 2011 MY SD4 HSE + planning some interesting stuff

I've been driving with HDC on the car for the last 6 years (in a Td5 Disco). I used it in a number of situations on and off-road and it worked like a charm to keep speed down.

same here !!!!

Same thing happened to me in my Disco 3 in John Lewis multi storey -Glasgow . Surface was very wet and think this combined with the grey non slip car park paint they use on the surface as well has an impact - thought I was clipping the kerb coming up the ramp on several occasions and every time I turned on full lock the rear driver wheel seemed to 'kick'. On the flat as well.
I thought it was a mechanical issue with the wheel but seems like it is to do with 4x4 wheels turning at different pace on the wet painted surface -causes back end to kick / slip ....Sounds ugly but once out the car park no further issue.... Glad you had the same issue ... Mind now at rest Thumbs Up
