There's no doubt his ambition outweighed his talent.
However, for the bikers on here (me included), can any of you say, hand on heart, that in your biking life you've never had that panic moment on a bend, hit the brakes and made things worse?
I know I have. I wasn't going that fast either. The trouble with a bike is that if at a crucial point in the bend you panic (say the bend tightens up a bit), you hit the brakes and it makes the bike sit up and go straight on.
I know it took me a lot of practice to keep looking where I want to go and to overcome panic moments.
Therein lies the problem (and some would say fun) with bikes. A small mistake can lead to disaster.
There are many more idiots in cars out there driving just as badly (if not worse) who get away with it because they're in a car. I'm not excusing the guy at all by the way.

Now here's an idiot and a half:

That's one of the big advantages of a GS - you can hit the brakes, and even change gear mid-bend, and the telelever takes it all in its stride. Steve

There's usually more than just suspension involved. People tend to see the hazard, fixate on it and steer towards it in a panic situation. Have a look on youtube. There are tonnes of examples of people crashing into things when they didn't need to.
As for the mighty GS and the telelever suspension, I've not tried it but must do one day. I was going to but one day in a showroom I sat on an Adventure that was sitting on its centre stand. When I tried to get off I swung my leg back over and got it stuck on one of the paniers. I pulled something and temporarily dislocated something else. I've been too shamed to go back for the test ride....

I worked beside a chap who crashed outside an undertakers. He wasn't aware of this so when he finally opened his eyes and looked up from where he was lying, you can imagine his concern when he saw an undertaker looking back at him...
It was all his own fault too. He had a PHd in Astrophysics and decided to 'clean' his brake disks with WD-40...
